This is the "real" Skytale that I plan to use in my writing. This version is truer to the original overpowered version of the character, which is why I’ll never use him for RP. He’s sort of like Serpentor from G.I. Joe but magic and less of a douche.

Origin (almost but not quite the original)

An alliance of famous heroes (basically the D&D Justice League) decided to create the perfect man, someone the forces of evil could never defeat. They started by making his body perfect and unaging. He was then given the memories of every member of the guild, as well as those of other legendary heroes from throughout the universe. They made him a shapeshifter so he could blend in anywhere. Finally they made him the most powerful magic user of all time. Though he was a human being, he was born with more skill and power than anyone could possibly achieve in over a thousand lifetimes. He had, however, one dangerous flaw.

In an attempt to make him fearless and incorruptible, one member of the team suggested giving their creation a “quiet heart”. This made him incapable of feeling anything intensely. He could not feel powerful emotions or sensations, making him immune to torture and manipulation. This also made him a sociopath willing to do anything for his own self benefit. By total accident, the heroes had created the incredibly dangerous and insanely powerful Skytale.

The heroes inevitably realized their mistake and all agreed their creation had to be destroyed before it could escape. Skytale had already anticipated this. When his creators tried to lead him into a trap, he faked his own death and slipped away. Thinking they had killed Skytale, the heroes rejoiced. Meanwhile Skytale began quietly becoming a universal superpower by pulling various strings and making various connections. One of his creators later discovered Skytale was still alive but was killed by one of Skytale’s assassins before he could tell the others. This led to them eventually discovering the truth and attempting to destroy Skytale, which ended with him almost singlehandedly destroying their entire guild in battle.

Personality

Skytale is fair to all his servants. He rewards loyalty and competence but punishes harshly for incompetence or disobedience. Though he's certainly evil, he's not a very violent individual. He believes in subtlety and prefers quietly pulling strings rather than giving orders from a throne. He prefers blackmail and bribery to assassination and usually leaves any necessary violence to his minions. Though he is cold and ruthless, Skytale is not a monster by any means. Just as he commits evil whenever it suits him, he also does a great deal of good for his own selfish reasons.

Powers and abilities

Skytale is a perfect example of utterly ridiculous omnicompetence. Name almost any skill whatsoever and he’s mastered it or has a spell that does it for him. Imagine if Batman One-Million was the sorcerer supreme, then make him a shapeshifter with Hulk level regeneration and you’ve got Skytale. He’s not the toughest but he’s almost certainly the most dangerous if you cross him. He has all sorts of nasty monsters and minions to do his bidding, and God help you if he decides to deal with you himself.

@wearelegion: Skytale pushes back against the barrier, as it begins to crack he realizes what Skullitor is doing and prepares to teleport. "Your servant deserves a reward, Skullitor. You owe her your life." With a flash of emerald Skytale disappears, off to wander the stars once more. He will return another day to finish what he started.

@encriptor: Skytale ignores the offer and begins to speak. "I have made a decision. You're dangerous, too dangerous to be my ally. I came to this world to spread my reputation, and defeating a being such as yourself would do just that." Skytale's eyes begin to glow with pure magical power and the floor begins to crumble around him. "I'll make this quick." He fires a beam of undead destroying energy that begins to tear it's way towards Skullitor at incredible speeds.

What fictional character would make the perfect ally for your character?

I can see Skytale coming to Earth and making an alliance with Doctor Doom. The Fantastic Four would be screwed!

@encriptor: Skytale watches the girl disappear into the night. These creatures are obviously nothing like Sahi vampires. They are monsters, not people. Skytale becomes invisible and transports himself to Skullitor's castle, he must find Rasputine and his master and ask if an alliance is still possible.
