Where to start as a Newcomer to Comics.

Personally I am very new to Comics. So new  I haven't actually bought any comics yet! - I was drawn to this site for Reference material to practice the art style about 5 days ago and I joined Yesterday.  A common thought for us newbies is. "Okay so these comic things look cool, Wow there's so many Where the hell do I start!"

After Reading the Forum Posts there are A LOT of ways to go.

Let me reiterate my comic book based background - I watched some of the Animated shows like Batman and X-men when I was a little kid. I caught a few episodes of Teen Titans when I was 12/13. Also as I've grown I watched a lot of the movie adaptations like Tim Burton's Batman 1/2, The Christopher Nolan Reboots, The Spider-man Trilogy, X-men 1/2/3 and Origins, Watchmen, Sin City and Iron Man 1. I of course know a lot of the trivia that bleeds into popular culture and I have sat through the odd Smallville Episode.

Now you'll see that i haven't listed any comic books. That's because I haven't actually ever read one.

I know a lot of people would find the period of catch up a painful task but I am Really looking forward to it. Because of this I've started to think where to start. After some guidance from a few site members, I've narrowed what id like to try first to Batman and X-men.

I found that Batman: Year One was the origin story of The Character, and as a bonus its a Frank Miller Production and I think it would be a good place to start. However after I read through that, then where do i go? Do I start With the TPB Collections of the Periodicals from Volume one to (n) or do I find another TPB mini series to start. I noticed in the Batman Inc. Review G-man and Sara did that's there is 6 or 7 periodicals at a time and I think that's too much to keep track of.

I think I Will start with the Frank miller origin story and decided after I've read that where to go after. maybe I'll decide to look at X-men instead. I can empathise with a lot of the people who come into comics late because I think a lot of them that could be potential long time consumers of the genre are sacred by the scope of what there is to buy.
