Loved Shelvey's art, it was ok, but wasn't as crazy about Smallwood's work in issue 7. Sticking with it for now though. Interested to see this one- sounds intriguing.
While the art is decent on this book, it's much closer to ok than "fantastic" IMO. I would love to see a different artist on this book. Doesn't make me want to drop the book, but the art doesn't do it for me.
Totally agree on the art (and the colors), looks muddy in a lot of places, pondering dropping it actually as it hasn't been all that much fun to read for me either....
@monsterduc1000: I have loved the first two issues of Southern Bastards. As far as being unoriginal, I can't think of a single comic being released right now that isn't derivative or influenced from a story that's already been told in one form of medium or the other.
Through the first 2 issues, SB has brought nothing new at all.
What about the magical tree over his father's grave? Something kinda crazy going on there...
Yep, some really good points from @longbowhunter regarding small town with dark / crazy shit happening behind the scenes.I'll admit, part of it is the loose, sketchy quality of Latour's art as well as the colors, which seem to fit the feel perfectly. There is the cheesy 70s b-movie vibe which I like as well. I don't know, it feels more original in comics to me for some reason than say if it was a movie.
