My Top Five Favorite Movies Ever!!!

This list is representative of the five definitive movies that have been the most memorable to me over the course of my lifetime. Other movies have come and gone, but these five will forever endure in my heart.

List items

  • Well, I couldn't find the movie of the same name per se on the Vine, but I know you know about the 1997 James Cameron movie which became an instant classic, nabbing so many awards in the process. 19 years later, it is still a household movie that will remain so twenty five years from now. It is truly an epic that I never could stop watching since I was a kid. The romantic part of the movie combined with the tragedy of the once-largest ocean liner in the world made for a movie that I will always refer to when someone asks me for a movie that I would recommend. When we talk about the history of cinema, I have to talk about Titanic (1997). James Cameron and the brilliant performances by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are just so powerful in so many ways. The movie that made me cry endlessly takes the top spot. Titanic truly is the "Ship of Dreams."

  • Aww, the movie that I literally watched today as of this writing has made second on this list. How??? When you have Michael J. Fox and a freakin' modified DeLorean time machine, how can't you have Back to the Future on any all-time favorite lists. I would be shocked if didn't make your list. This is the ultimate science fiction movie ever! It is just thrilling when your watching it, and yet it adds a flavor of comedy that you know is synonymous with this classic. It didn't have to be violent or Rated R to get the audience's attention. The movie takes some inspiration from sci fi lore and simplistic comedy, and you got a timeless family feature film. Grab some popcorn and soda, and take a ride back to the future!

  • Anyone can cook! Indeed this movie made me a believer of such a motto. Ratatouille made a lover of food for the first time in my life upon watching it all those years ago. But the movie has more going on than the pleasures of wonderfully made entrees and deserts. The relationship between rats and humans is arguably the co-theme of the story along with...food of course! Rats and humans as you may know don't have the best of relationships and in real life, we tend to have a negative connotation of rats. In Ratatouille, that relationship is portrayed with realism and drama that makes the audience refuse to ignore the issue in a Disney Pixar's film. The evolution of the relationship from start to finish in the movie is showcased beautifully, and major changes take place in none other than the kitchen of Gusteau's restaurant. A rat having unbelievable talent to cook and just has that passion to be a chef like no other is powerfully executed in the movie. It's very inspirational to many viewers and is a movie that anyone ranging from young to old will enjoy. Food, rats, and Paris. I say, not a bad combo. More of an interesting one if you ask me. Ratatouille anyone?

  • "It can't rain all the time." The movie marked the final appearance by charismatic actor and martial artist Brandon Lee. The movie will always be synonymous with Lee and his death during filming of the movie. But beyond the real life tragedy of such a young and promising actor, the story of the Crow is also very tragic. Eric Draven and his fiancĂ© Shelly are murdered the night before their wedding. One year later, a crow resurrects Eric so that he may take vengeance for the death of his lover and himself. It was tragic from the very beginning, but that's what kept me hooked into the movie. The death of Lee and the death of Draven draw so many eerie comparisons that I am saddened to mention here. But the emotions of sadness and curiosity allow the audience to watch a beautifully crafted movie tell how tragedy can turn into a bittersweet victory and redemption. I just couldn't help but feel sad throughout the movie and yet wonder if the Crow will make those who inflicted pain on him and his fiancĂ© pay for their horrific crimes that they were never caught and convicted of. The perfect story of tragedy, redemption, and vengeance takes hold in the Crow (1994). Brandon Lee's death adds to the themes that are presented in the film. How people deserving of happiness and success are given undesirable fates that can never be changed.

  • The movie Malcolm X, which I couldn't find on the Vine and based on the legendary African American civil rights leader of the same name, is just the most underrated film of the past 25 years. The most memorable aspect of the film: the richly powerful performance by Denzel Washington is a performance that I will never forget. It's pretty shocking that Denzel didn't win the Oscar for his performance. This movie is very faithful to the life of Malcolm X, the civil rights leader who caught the attention of so many for his controversial stance on civil rights. When you think of the civil rights movement of the 1960s, there are two names that everybody refers to: Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. The 1992 movie illustrated that while the two shared the ultimate goal of civil rights for African Americans, the tools and methods to accomplish that mutual goal were far from similar. Malcolm X is memorable for showcasing the definitive portrayal of Malcolm X and his life through the art of the movies. It's entertaining yet informative.
