SummaryBlack Panther stumbles upon a scene which forces him to reconsider the effectiveness of the Illuminati. I wish there was more say...What I likedSteve Epting: Most DC books I read have a nice polished glossy feel which makes them feel complete and expensive. Marvel, generally speaking from my past experiences, have either had washed colours, which work fine to set a tone of realism, or the generic mediocrity which all publishers have at least some of. Steve Epting seems to be bringing a re...

Black Panther #1 *with spoilers* 0

John Hickman revives what is possibly the best thing to come out of Brian Micheal Bendis' Avengers run; the illuminati. As the opening recap page reminds us it was a team consisting of Marvel's brightest characters to run the world in secret, only one person declined the information; Black Panther.Having not had much experience with the character, I found this using informative in the way that it expresses just how much of a badass King T'challa is. The issues revolves around three Wakandian sci...

THE GOODSteve Epting. I was really sad when he left FF, and now I'm really glad that he gets to do something else with Hickman. There's something about his work that, while no single panel is particularly impressive, really works well as an issue.Jonathon Hickman is just good at writing. I like everything that he's written, and this is no exception.Black Panther is a hero that I've never really cared about. I mean, I've never really gotten the point of him in a world that already has Captain Ame...

Oh my god, Jock is an AMAZING cover artist. There's such a brilliantly dark simplicity to this design, yet an intense iconic image. Even casual Marvel fans should recognize the subtle silhouettes of Black Panther, Iron Man, and Mr. Fantastic. I was also able to catch Black Bolt simply due to my exposure to him in Hickman's FF run, and then there's Beast but I have no idea why he's supposed to be there, he doesn't appear in the issue. It seems odd for a first issue to have a 'Previous On' segment,...

    Disappointing, but Showing Potential 2

Initially I wasn't planing on getting this series due to already getting 2 Avengers series (Uncanny Avengers, and Avengers), and am planing on getting Young Avengers, so I felt that I would have enough Avengers series'. After all the hype for this series I've decided to try this, and cut the Avengers series I lest like, or all if they're all poor, as I don't want to be getting more than 2-3 Avengers series (preferably 2). I've never been a huge fan of Jonathan Hickman's work, but the idea of a s...

    New Avengers #1 2

New Avengers promises to deal with the repercussions of the Illuminati, a group consisting of Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Mister Fantastic, and Namor, among others, and brought together in order to control world events. One issue into Hickman's 2013 volume, we see the world from the perspective of Black Panther, who was invited to join the New Avengers but had moral issues with their existence. Black Panther is no longer the king of Wakanda. He is now the creepy king of the Wakandan cr...

    Black Panther solo book. 0

I was really interested in this series the idea of the premise of it sounded good while I may not get it ongoing I wanted to try out out the first issue to see if it was good enough to get in trade later. If this series is good though I might swap it for another series I haven't liked so much.PlotBlack Panther congratulates some of Wakanda's cleverest kids on passing the test when a portal appears Black Panther investigates and travels to a different dimension and encounters some people who are ...

This is a fine example of how not to debut a new series. 0

This is a fine example of how not to debut a new series. This review contains spoilers if you haven't read the issue yet. When Brian Michael Bendis launched the first volume of New Avengers in 2005 he did it with a bang. It was an action packed issue that set up a new direction for a number of heroes and the Avengers as a whole.Fast forward to Jonathan Hickman’s 2013 relaunch of the new avengers, in which Black Panther takes center stage and we get some setup for a new villain/storyline. Setup is ...

Could it be that Black Panther's decision to not join the Illuminati in the beginning, because of the reason (justified) that no group of men, no matter how important and selected their members and noble their goal, can decide and rule humanity's fate from the shadows, especially Wakandan's affairs, will burn him after all these years or worst, will it be enough to change his ideas and moral compass? Something I really admire in comic books is the possibility (endless, limitless and infinity) th...
