Logan: The Best There Is (Spoilers)

    Logan Review

Logan is one of those movies that any Wolverine fan wanted to see. But what about the young ones, who had been reading Wolverine comics all their life, can't attend the screening of the most brutal, violent movie ever?

Well, it's sad to say that young kids can't attend alone, only with the exception of their parents coming along with them. Any viewer knows that this movie was unlike the previous two Wolverine movies, we have seen so far. The main difference is violence.

Let's get to the review. Shall we?

    The Good

The movie starts off as the Old Man Logan was being attacked by some Mexican thugs. He then gets pissed off when his own car got shot. Guess what happened next? Yep, Logan goes berserk, and slashes those thugs like animal meat.

Berserk issues aside, the story was touching to see that Logan and his old mentor, Xavier trying to survive in this non-existent mutant world. Tough times are brewing ahead, and Logan finds himself desperately needing the drugs to calm Xavier's mental abilities.

Hugh Jackman gave a phenomenal performance to this familiar old character. He had played this role, and was born with it. Who cares, if he was tall enough to play the short, and grumpy character?

Patrick Stewart played a exceptional supporting role in this movie. We can see the ramifications of what caused his state in Logan's alternate future. In the early years, we saw him as the messiah of mutankind. Now, he's hiding from the government, and there are dark forces at work, who may want to exploit his powers for either good or evil.

Speaking of powers, it was tough to see Xavier struggling to control the psionic waves that have caused a huge impact on the entire world. Yes, Patrick had showed his deep emotional character, who had to face the fact that he accidentally killed his own dream for peace.

But there is still hope for these old mutants. The new child actor, who was playing Laura/X-23 has arrived on their doorstep. It was exciting to see Laura's live-action debut on the screen. The actress looks the part, and managed to shout out during her berserker mode. Not to mention, the brutality of her rage.

Now that Laura has arrived, what does this mean for the future of mutantkind? Well, you have Eden being mentioned in the comics. These comics existed in Logan's world, making the X-Men legendary, as if though they never existed. But they do exist, and the comic creators of that world were inspired by these heroes whom they had saved humanity, even though most humans fear them.

I like the fact that these comics were included in the movie. It shows that hope, and that Laura and Xavier were willing to go to Eden, where the mutant survivors can live in peace. But Logan never believed in that hope, because he knows that the X-Men were dead, and most mutants died out.

Even though, Logan didn't believe in Eden. He still has to save Laura and Xavier from the Reavers, including Dr. Zander Rice, the head of the mysterious Transigen project.

It's good that there were no flashy comic book characters, we have seen in the Old Man Logan comic series, despite the fact the Marvel Studios has control over most characters. Logan is a human drama, and talks about family. The main character takes risks, even though he knows that some people can get hurt, including the ones that he cares about.

In the end, Logan sacrificed his life, saving Laura, and other last-surviving mutants from the Reavers. It was heart-breaking to see that one of the most powerful characters in Marvel history goes down in the hands of his worst enemy...Himself.

    The Bad

Now that we've talked about heroes, What about the villains? There wasn't much information about these baddies and their purpose in capturing Laura, and that includes Dr. Zander Rice. His brief meeting with Logan was cut short. But there was tiny bit of information being given by the mad scientist, and this is connected to the movie, which we have seen before. If you want to know what that is, you can find out in my blog entry, "Where Does Logan Fit Into The X-Men Cinematic Universe?"

There's another negative aspect of this movie, and I'm not sure if this will matter to anyone. Inconsistencies had confused X-Men and Wolverine fans over the course of ten movies. Let's not forget that Logan could be set in an alternate timeline, so anything can happen.

    The Verdict

Inconsistencies aside, the movie was brutally well-made in terms of story and violence. Logan may have been a stand-alone feature, but there is a rich history behind the character as he appeared in previous movies. Either you ignore that history, or just have fun watching Logan's stand-alone story. It's one of the best there is.

The GoodIts Rated Rcan i say its about damn time... like seriously? Wolverine has a very dark very bad past, and his storylines are always very dark and very violent/graphic. The only way to properly display a Logan story, true to the character, is rated RStoryThe Story is unique. For Legal and other dumb ass reasons, fox was unable to do the true OId Man Logan storyline (not sure how that would have translated to the big screen either) but, this story knocks it out of the park.Logan for the mo...

So I have just seen Logan in the critics screening. What a phenomenal movie, it's even better than TDK. The writing is top notch, the acting is so spectacular, and the movie is very violent. This is the Wolverine movie we deserve. Well done FOX, well done....
