Back in August I reported that the next movie DC/Warner Home Video is putting out is Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths.  Back then, all we had was an image from the back of the upcoming Superman/Batman: Public Enemies DVD art.  Some more information has come out, including the voice cast and synopsis:

Warner Home Video will distribute in Spring 2010 (finalizing date soon)

An original story from award-winning animation/comics writer Dwayne
McDuffie (Justice League) rooted in DC Comics’ popular canon of
“Crisis” stories.

Bruce Timm (Superman Doomsday, Green Lantern) is executive producer.
Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern) and Sam Liu
 (Superman/Batman: Public Enemies) are co-directors.

In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a “good” Lex Luthor arrives
from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save
his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters
with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What
ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that
threatens both planets and, through a diabolical plan launched by
Owlman, puts the balance of all existence in peril.

All-star voice cast led by Mark Harmon (NCIS) as Superman, James Woods
(Ghosts of Mississippi) as Owlman, Chris Noth (Sex and the City, Law &
Order) as Lex Luthor, William Baldwin (Dirty Sexy Money) as Batman,
Gina Torres (Serenity, Firefly) as Super Woman and Bruce Davison
 (X-Men) as the President.

How's that sound?  The question most of us had was why only two Earths versus an infinite number.  Obviously for an animated feature, you have to try to keep the story focused.  There's also the new viewers or those not entirely familiar with the vast history of the DC Universe.  I'm okay with just two Earths.  Now we're not getting some of our familiar voices like Kevin Conroy as Batman or Tim Daly as Superman but I guess change can be good once in a while.  Perhaps it will be okay to give others a chance to give their interpretation.

I also have to say that I've never been entirely crazy about the Crime Syndicate.  I know the potential is there for something cool.  We've all thought about the good guys turning bad.  I just never really got into any stories that they appeared in.  Is it just me?  Are you a fan of the Crime Syndicate?  What do you think about this upcoming movie?  You can bet that I will be receiving a lot more information about it as the movie's release date approaches.

As much as Im attached to those voices Im perfectly fine with them thinking outside the box for any feature that doesn't continue down the DCAU timeline.

@ryanwh: I agree.  It's nice to have someone else come and show us what they can bring to the character.  It also keeps the others on their toes.  As great as they are, they can't just assume they'll always get the role.  That way when they do approach the role, they'll give it 100%.

These animated movies are coming out faster than the live action DC Superhero movies and they have all the stuff allot of fans wan out of superhero movies. Warner should give a bigger budget to one of the next movies and put it out in theatres.

At Comic-Con, I think it was Bruce Timm that told me that had like six features in various stages right now.

This sounds like a sweet movie, and the storyline feels VERY reminiscence of Morrison/Quietly's JLA: Earth 2, which in all honestly was the graphic novel that got me back into comics, so I'm super stoked to see this film! LOL

Mark Harmon is an interesting choice as Superman.  He's become so closely identified, for me, with his role as Gibbs on NCIS.  Seems like a better choice for Batman.  It would be fun for each voice actor to do the Earth-1 hero and their Crime Syndicate counter-part.  That is, Harmon as both Superman and Ultraman, James Woods as both Batman and Owlman, etc.  My biggest concern: no mention of Andrea Romano.  Hasn't she been a part of the all the animated films and the JL series up to now?

I think it's not go to have as much to do with Crisis as we expected, and could we use even worse movies to showcase the voice over actors past work.

If you're unsure of the CSA, I'd recommend reading Earth2, a graphic novel written by Grant Morrison and Illustrated by Frank Quietly, it appears to be the basis for this animated feature. As such I feel that it'll be a well done adaptation, much like "The Final Frontier" which came out last year, which was in my modest opinion a successful film, and the best part is these title are made for direct to video release, so there is no waiting in long lines or paying $10 for an ounce of Popcorn to enjoy watching them .

The story may not be just Crisis as in Monitors and every DCU hero uniting but the first story to be called Crisis I think was "Crisis on Earth One" and it just involved the JLA teaming up with other heroes on different Earths or times. So people should not be putt off if they think it will be too dense.

Probably the "Movie" in the title.  "Animated Movie" or "Animated Feature" might have been better but kinda long for a title.  Hope I didn't get your hopes up.

Yeah it's kinda sad that these, usually pretty good if not great, animated movies get released quite often while the live-action DC Comics movie scene is about as dry and desolate as the Sahara. You'd think that  Warner Brothers would've pounced on the opportunity to make more superhero movies once this stuff became so popular and lucrative... but all they've got to show for it are Superman Returns, Dark Knight, and freakin' Catwoman. While the other two certainly aren't bad, how the hell did Catwoman get the movie nod over... oh... someone like Wonder Woman??? or the Flash??? or Green Lantern???

Hopefully the (assuming) still in production Green Lantern movie will make WB realize this flawed mistake and we'll soon get to see more, like Captain Marvel, which is apparently NOT as dead as once believed.

But back on topic... I trust these guys to handle this pretty well. They had plans to bring in the Crime Syndicate for a while, back in the early days of the Justice League cartoon, so it'll be kinda neat to see how they handle it.

I'm weary about any other voice work for Superman and Batman, but I'm willing to give others a chance. Sometimes I have a problem with making animated movies of popular story arcs from comics. They have to cut so much from the story it makes it more irritating. I feel it would be better served to break it up into a couple of movies.

Too bad DC can't keep their Universe storyline similar to this concept for the animated movie.  Specifically, just 2 Earths instead of an infinite number.
I actually do like the idea of the Crime Syndicate with Owlman and the other characters.
I understand everyone's devotion to the voice actors but I can live with the changes long as everything else is good.

I think they're really none-committal is what's happening, after Superman Returns. They could make a huge movie that may or may not succeed, or they could make a straight to DVD animated movie that will almost certainly make them money. In a perfect world they'd do both. But ultimately, the only really good marvel movie IP is Iron Man and WB had Batman, so qualitatively they're about squared. I personally could have lived without the new crappy Wolverine and Hulk movies and absolutely the Punisher film and that awful Ghostrider. Even if that means less comic book movies, it also means less shitty comic book movies.
