Huonnor

Creation

Huonnor was created by Bronwyn Taggart and penciler Peter Gross in The Books of Faerie: Auberon's Tale issue 2 in 1998.

Major Story Arcs

As a child, Huonnor played with Dymphna and Obrey at court. Huonnor is a descendant of Haakon and thus Huon, the first king of Faerie. His title is the Duke of Grimwar, and after King Magnus is killed, he seems to be most prominent claimant for the throne.

The troll Sturm lets him know about the king, and they ride with an army to challenge Obrey and Auberon, the other contenders. Huonnor is outnumbered, but buoyed by an ancient prophecy that his people shall always rule Faerie til it no longer exists. His wife also discovers she is pregnant.

Huonnor comes upon Auberon in the battle, but doesn’t realize who he is because he is so young. Huonnor’s basic decency and thoughtfulness come across in their conversation. When Obrey shows up and explains who Auberon is, Huonnor lays down his sword, saying he cannot fight the child.

Auberon is crowned king, and Obrey becomes the regent, governing in Auberon’s name until he is old enough.

Auberon is inclined to pardon Huonnor and make him his advisor, but Huonnor knows that there are other manipulating events, and that if he did so, they would both be killed. He is correct, for Amadan is indeed coordinating things so that he becomes the power behind the throne. He gets another Faerie nobleman to kill Huonnor while in prison, just before the news arrives that his daughter has been born.

Auberon, hearing of this orders that the girl be brought to court and raised with honor. He says he will marry her when she is of age, thus consolidating their lines. However, Auberon ends up having to go on the run out of concern for his own life, and eventually marries Titania instead.
