Yeah. I said it. This is the kind of crap that EA is pulling. First, it's DLC-on-disk nonsense, and now this.

http://gamepolitics.com/2012/03/19/ea-shutting-down-online-services-14-games

"Electronic Arts plans to shut down 14 online services that support various games in late March and mid-April. Interestingly enough some of these titles supported EA's Online Pass system - they paid an extra fee to play online. The most notable of the list is EA Sports MMA, which was one of the first games from EA that used the Online Pass system.

Online services being shut down on March 31 include Battlefield 3: Aftershock for iOS devices (the game was recently yanked from the App Store, but those who downloaded the game were being allowed to continue playing it), Fantasi Safari for iOS devices, and Ghost Harvest for iPhone.

On April 13 EA will close online services for BOOM BLOX Bash Party for Wii, Burnout Revenge for Xbox 360, EA Create (PC, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360), EA Sports Active 2.0 (PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360) EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp for Wii, FIFA 10 for PlayStation Portable and Wii, The Godfather II (PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), MMA for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Need for Speed ProStreet for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, The Saboteur (loss of The Midnight Club access) for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and Spare Parts for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."

I thought Battlefield 3 was one of them, then I read the article a bit more closely. It's actually the iPhone version of the game. Phew.

@Static Shock: To be fair its only old games, though Burnout: Paradise is one of the best racing games ever.

It's pretty stupid that they're doing this, but the only games on that list that I played were Saboteur and ProStreet. Enjoyed both, but not that sad to see their online components shut down.

@ReVamp: I feel you, but I'm mad for the people that still enjoy these games online. Plus, it goes past the fact that these games are old. This proves that the significance of the online pass doesn't matter. So, if EA is doing this, why did they implement the online pass in the first place? If it's this bad, it will get worse. These may be old games, but this is how it starts.

I think you're missing the point. If they are going to shut down online servers for these games when they had online passes, what was the point of the online pass?

As far as servers for games getting shut down, Halo 3 still has its server up. The game is almost five years old. Not all games get their servers shut down, and even if they do, where the sense in shutting them down within two years of its release? EA Sports MMA hasn't even been out for two years, and in less than two weeks, playing it online will no longer be a possibility.

The reality of it is that EA has no respect for consumers.

Seems to me those are all games that are probably not being played all that much online, so why keep servers going for games that have a very limited fan useage, it seems like throwing money down the money hole for no reason then to satisfy a small percentage of people.

@Nova`Prime`: Even if they can afford it? Honestly, servers don't cost that much money to maintain.

FIFA Street was pretty cool yeah, but FIFA 12 was incredible and I have yet to play a better football game (Yes, I refer to it as football)

@Static Shock: Sure they could just leave them up, but after all they are running a business and any where you can cut expenses you do. I am not saying they are right or wrong I am just saying if you're paying for something that doesn't have a good deal of return you cut it loss. The main question should be, if you buy the game now second hand do you still need the online pass to get any discounted DLC? If they are shutting down the servers and making the passes invalid they should have the prices lowered on the corresponding DLC.

That's the problem. They aren't lowering the prince on DLC. Games bought secondhand (used) don't have an online pass, anyway. Buying the game new with the online pass defeats the online pass's purpose if the game's servers are shut down.

Sounds good. My subscription to XBL expired a few days ago and my normal squad of people don't get on anymore for some reason. I'll renew it tomorrow and hit you up..

Also, isn't there an alleged DLC coming out soon?

@texasdeathmatch: Yeah, there is. I can rest easy and pay for it, knowing that it's not on the disk.
