Why is Superman: The Animated Series underrated?

It's not underrated at all.

Compared to all of the other DCAU shows, it most definitely is

It's probably overshadowed by the other great animated shows DC has produced.

It's amazing, batman tas was even more amazing and it came first.

Wouldn't say underrated, but moreso overlooked tbh though I'm surprised because it was pretty great.

I don't particularly care for it. Clark is incredibly weak, the shows are overall a bit more corny than the rest of the DCAU, and the color scheme irritates me.

It was a half assed show made by ppl who didn't like superman and admitted to thinking that he was corny while making the show. I hate Bruce Timm.

It wasn't as revolutinary as BTAS and didn't have the wider appeal of the many characters of JLU. But in its own right it was great.

It was just overlooked.

@gjgp27: Superman is my favourite Superhero even I must admit he was corny those times.

IIRC they nerfed him too much in that show. But I think it's pretty cool.

It was a fantastic series. Still one of my favorites. Bruce Timm and crew did a great job with it.

Batman TAS and the Justice Ball Z...

I think it's more a matter of what else was going on at the time with animation and it just wasn't as good as Batman tas.

I still love it though.

I don't think it is underrated.

I'm not sure it's underrated as I only hear good things about it; I think it's more overlooked. I'm not sure why it's overlooked though. I always liked it more than Batman TAS.

Because most people preferred Batman, we all know this.

Personally, I thought Superman was the better show, but I think this was about the time DC really started pushing Batman as their Ace.

It was second to me, though. Nothing beat Static Shock, but Batman Beyond coming in at number 3 as a solid show in it's own right.

I always think that before the whole JLZ the DC animated shows were better.

Superman was pretty balanced in all aspects.

Was as mature as Batman Tas, but never as dark.

The more notable DCAU shows are:

Batman the Animated Series

Superman the Animated Series

Batman Beyond

Justice League/JLU

Of these, Justice League shows are definitely not underrated (I don't think they're overrated either). That leaves with Batman the Animated Series and Batman Beyond, which gets more love due to Batman's popularity.

So if you ask me, yes Superman the Animated Series is kind of overlooked, or underrated if you put it that way.

I enjoyed it, but it could of been better.

I think the ratio of good to bad to average episodes leaned pretty heavily in the average category. I liked the origin story of Brainiac being from Krypton and having a hand in it's destruction though. And I really liked the destroyer episode where he is brain washed by Darkseid.

I laughed too much at this line. I don't know why, but I guess it's the way he said it and then right after what he does just makes it hilarious to me.

Same reason for everything else Superman's related, Batman's was better.

Because it wasn't as good as other DCAU shows but it should get more credit because it sets up the best storylines in the JL/JlU: Brainiac & Darkseid return and Cadmus arcs. The real over look DCAU member was the Zata Project, anyone actually remember that?

Agreed.

It was very good, just never got into the spotlight.

One thing I really liked apart from the New Gods & Lex Luthor aspect was that version of Metallo.

Yes Superman is definitely overshadowed....... hardly anyone has heard about that guy
