Beyond the artistic -something I think the DCEU has worked excellent-, despite the acceptable box office, Warner Bros. could not ignore the poor reception from critics, much less when his latest film obtained negative opinions even fans.

From the beginning, the DCEU set out to create serious and dark films, away from the concept that Marvel had developed over the years.

Finally, the trailer for Justice League was published, and with it the promise of a balanced story, not so hard and grim but not silly and childish (without referring directly to other franchises), but did it work?

Yes, he did; and Jeff Bewkes, CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment confirm handled:

"[The DC superheroes have] more shine on them. We are thinking about that (...) we think there is room for improvement. "

"These films were very successful in strategic and financial (...) terms what should remove [of movies] it is what we should be concerned. we are much more optimisticabout this than they were a while ago ... we're on the right path. "

Wonder Woman vs Justice League are upcoming movies in the schedule of DC, will we see this change of tone, aesthetic and narrative in them? Undoubtedly. Is this a bad thing?

I Want to know your Thoughts...

And No, Marvel has nothing to do with DC..

It's hilarious how many threads people are making about this. DC made the biggest deal about being "dark and gritty" for so long people are completely losing there sh*t now that DC's new buzz word is "FUN, FUN, FUN." And those musicals tho.

DC brought this on themselves. What did they think was gonna happen after them and there fans put them on high for so long.

@Nerevarine_11:

"Can't wait to see it all crash and burn"

Yep. The whole reason DC was trying to convince people they were something different is because they knew no one would take them serious being a copy cat Marvel. So now that it didn't work it forces them to do the one thing they knew wouldn't work. Just be a copy cat Marvel. There cutting loses.

I agree whole heartedly. The DCCU us gonna "crash and burn."

Actions speak louder than words at this point. Given how unnecessarily dark and moody the past 3 DCEU films have been, I have yet to see how Snyder's directing habits will be changed in time for Justice League.

  • I dont mind if the films balance the tone...Like a nice mix of Dark and Macabre with a few ice breaker Jokes..
  • .I dont want a similar tone to the MCU..Like Batman and Supes are fighting Darkseid and Batman suddenly says i gotta go charge my I-Pod..
  • The reason why i was so excited for Man of Steel is becuase it had this dark and gritty tone that you don't usually see in a Superhero movie...I though it was going to be like a mix of Superman and Moby Dick.(Well i guess it was a little bit in the beginning)..And Clarks adventures at sea were going to somehow tie into the Zod invasion..
  • And from a tone perspective, it certainly didn't disappoint because it firmly established itself as a film that takes place in an entirely different comic world then the MCU..
  • And the main reason why i dont want them to copy Marvels tone is becuase it puts a creative monopoly on comic book movies and further inches the CBM genre resonance boom towards collapse..(We all know its coming but most of us are hoping for alteast another 6 years to a decade.

It doesn't matter if it's fun or dark the real thing is just be consistent. Something DCEU and Marvel aren't so good at.

Marvel has nothing to do with WB or any other movie studio that makes super hero movies... Nolan's tone was incredibly successful, and it is proven that works with Batman, the Dceu missteps were caused by WB trying to build a shared cinematic universe without the necessary tools for it, like a person in charge with a vision/plan, if not its own studio at least a division separated from the other WB projects, have patience and don't listen to (some) fans so much, the idea that Dc based movies have to be the most successful (because they are more popular in comics) has to stay within the fan base... The movies medium is not like comics that (unfortunately) is basically only fans-driven, you need to have appeal range, so if WB after MoS did Wonder Woman, MoS 2, Flash, Batman... This discussions probably would not happen... Are the current WB (non cb movies) successful? Because there is no monopolization in other genres? NOPE... WB is having a lot of misses/Flops in recent years and i am not sure why Kevin Tsujihara is still the WB Ceo...

Besides saying that marvel that sold their A listers to other movie studios was able to monopolize everything in the biggest fiction medium, (with secondary characters) diminish the Dc characters that were successful in the same medium long time before Marvel even think in making Spider-Man movies...

Kinda funny how Fox in all this years exploring Marvel characters never looked so insecure...

I think it should vary, batman stuff should be dark, superman stuff should be lighthearted and gleefully inspiring, wonder woman should be somewhere in the middle, etc. Basically, it should fit the character.

There wasn't anything wrong with these movies. The only thing needed was someone from DC to come in and steer things and keep things consistent without the WB execs meddling (forcing script re-writes and editing). That is all. But... looks like the fanboys and salty critics win the day. Hope they're satisfied with the results (news flash: they won't be no matter what WB/DC does or doesn't do).

Changing the tone will do absolutely zilch to the quality of the film. In fact, if they go the way of Marvel, it could make it worse.

@petey_is_spidey: I didn't deny that, I said that a lighter tone is needed if the DCEU is to sail smoothly rather than barely treading water as it currently stands. There are other glaring problems that also need to be fixed for DC's movies to do better.

I disagree with that honestly. At best there was some dark comedy moments. It had plotholes, but I wholley disagree that it was moodier than your average Marvel flick, at best it was a bit more violent. I mean, 4 characters on the team provided their own comedic styles to it, and then you had your straightmen. Also, your second sentence sounds as if you haven't seen it.

I don't actually have a problem with tone as I like comedies and tragedies...I just like DC characters more than than Marvel so any tone is fine with me...And I think tone can only be decided once the movie plot and main characters are chosen...So, Justice League can have Suicide Squad like tone where it is both funny and dark and Wonder Woman can go the Man Of Steel way...

I haven't, why would I go to see something I know I won't like? With the Suicide Squad I can't say I cared very much if the movie did screw up the comic lore like with Superman or Batman. Plus it didn't look like my sort of thing. Everything shown was definitely darker than the average Marvel movie for sure.

  • Less destruction porn, more rich storytelling please. THAT is their problem, the films are just husks built around eyecandy shots and flashy visuals.
  • Stop relying on big name actors and gimmickie films (looking at you all 11 minutes of actual bvs)
  • Stop overediting films, and make the films promotion at least resemble the final product.

The last 2/3 of the DCEU have been over-edited frankenfilms so severely constrained by limited creativity and the pressure to create a profitable film rather than a piece of art.

I think SS was intended to be somewhat darker than any DCEU film but with black comedy but Ayer keeps making that excuse that WB tampered with his film...then he goes out and says the theatre cut is the one that everybody saw. I think he knew full well he was making a shitty movie same with Snyder, and thats why WB interferes...

Keep in mind that BVS was supposed to be released in 2015. Can you imagine what would've happened? It would've got destroyed financially and even worse than it previously was. Then you have SS released in August with zero competition. WB knows their directors, writing, tone, execution and everything in between is utter trash so they find ways to make the most money and minimalize the most amount of damage that can be done to their films.

1. They release embargoes 1 day before the film comes out. Both for BVS and SS.

2. They find dates with no competition from any other big blockbuster films.

3. They build egregious amounts of hype with trailers that are more coherently edited than the movie itself.

WB has a great scam going on with this satirical parody of a cinematic universe. Its brilliant but its gonna wear thin.

Really seemed dark to me, intentionally dark for the source material rather than inappropriately dark. Handled much darker subjects than any MCU movie but whatever, doesn't matter if it was dark or not. What matters is that it was still met with the usual reception of a DC movie.
