We live in a world where Marvel's Quicksilver is going to appear in two competing film franchises, as many as four new DC Comics TV series could be on small screens this fall… so why not a world where Aquaman has two ongoing comic book series?
Aquaman and the Others is a new ongoing series written by Dan Jurgens with art by Lan Medina and Ed Tadeo, DC Comics announced through IGN Tuesday afternoon. The team, featured periodically in the Aquaman solo series, will take on new threats to their Atlantean artifacts in stories parallel to that book. Aquaman, Ya'wara, Sky, The Operative, and Prisoner-of-War will all be returning for the series, if the cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado is any indication.
The series is notable not just for being a second Aquaman ongoing, but also because these characters, The Others, are characters brand new and unique to the New 52 DC Universe. They were not imports from a former version of the DCU, and represent the publisher's commitment to, and confidence in, new concepts and characters in this two and a half year old version of their world.
Aquaman and the Others #1 hits shelves April 2014.
