The punches of Thanos don’t cause much massive destruction, even compared to people weaker then him like Hulk and Thor. I interpret this as the control and precision with which Thanos fights. When he punches, instead of creating a huge explosion traveling outward, which is a waste of energy, he makes sure that all his energy goes into his target. The directors have called him the most polished fighter after all. We can see this in that gif with the way Thor is totally out of it, he’s basically been knocked out already and his sheer will keeps him up, and Thor should have similar durability to Superman.
Where is the option "Thanos breaks his fists by punching Superman"?
Seriously, Supes were tanking post-nuke Zodsday' hits just fine - and this kryptonian cave troll appears to me as more physically powerful than purple ape.

To be fair they said he was more polished than Thor. They did say he was unbeatable in combat which I guess can be interpreted in different ways.
If he is replacing Thor in the gif he will be fine. Not much reason to assume superman can't take like 6 punches from Thanos. If Superman is standing there while Thanos beats on him for as long as he needs superman will go down eventually. I'd say a couple of minutes looking at the options in the OP.

Isn't that combination what put Thor down?
I dont get the hype about Thanos's striking, stomping Hulk is not hard for any physical high tier. He can take a load before being put down, just compare the Metropolis fight to the Avengers hq fight.
@the_hajduk: Not sure what you mean?
He actually took worse in Man of Steel and was completely fine.
Not sure about that; I find it quite bizarre that two comparable beings, be they humans or Kryptonians, can take turns hitting on one another for hours without even taking a bruise. WTF? Don't they have proportional strength and durability?
If it was meant to showcase their durability, it does at the expense of their striking power, that in no way or form ever was a game-changer in the DCEU movies. Looks like WW with sword hits harder.
OP: Supes can tank that for a minute, meaning a dozen hits or do.

You said this was only a few blows but it put Thor down. Thor = Superman.

Thor wasn't put down. Thanos literally tries to kill Thor with his own axe who is holding it back. I also subscribe to the notion that End Game Thor is not prime Thor and there is a difference.
They tickle him.

Look at Thor's face. He is on queer street. Right after this moment he spent time resting as Captain America took on Thanos. So a few more blows at that moment would have put him down.

He was put down after that gif but its not like thanos dropped him with just the hits shown in the gif. Thor had been fighting Thanos before and a little after that gif.

A lot of people on the Vine judge damage by # of hits, or base who was winning a fight off # of hits. That's amateur thinking. The professionals know that what's really important is landing the hits that matter. Any human on the Earth who is able bodied can potentially knock out any other human with just one strike. A skilled fighter is just landing that finishing strike first.
So the reason Thor was dropped here isn't because of incremental damage as if the characters have health bars like a video game. It's supposed to be more realistic then that. It also isn't because Thor can't tank 6 punches from a Hulk or Kurse level strength. He did that in the past. What makes Thanos separate is that he's landing Mike Tyson jabs aimed directly into Thor's jaw, Thanos has laser-like accuracy with those punches, and knocking somebody unconscious is just a matter of jarring their skull to bounce their brain the right way.

I was being figurative when I said Thanos can't put superman down in 6 hits. I never counted the hits in the gif. The point is Thanos never put thor down in that gif and they had been fighting for a while before hand.

OK...It still took more than what the gif showed to put Thor down.

It doesn't look like Thanos' blows are that precise. At least in that moment.
@jashro44: What do you mean? Before this gif Thanos touched Thor one time which was by kicking his chest and that's it. We don't know what happens after that as the scene immediately cuts for another two minutes focusing on the trapped Avengers in Avengers HQ. Then we cut back to this fight and Thor and Thanos don't face off again until this moment
So them "fighting for awhile" isn't really true based on on screen evidence.
OT: Superman does a much better job at taking these hits than Thor who pretty much was done after the first 2 hits. But if Thanos is allowed to continue punching him even after his free 4 hits is up Superman will eventually be KO'd.
I like how people apply the Kryptonian striking feats with massive amounts of area destruction while conveniently ignoring the speed, and therefore momentum required to cause such damage.

The fight probably continued off screen. I doubt Thanos was just twiddling his thumbs. IIRC Tony was knocked out and only cap and Thor were left.
@jashro44: Obviously but we have no way of knowing what happened so it's best to just go off what we actually know what happened which is what I talked about above.
Tony getting knocked out doesn't have anything to do with Thanos and Thor fighting one on one or at least physically touching each other.
Depends on if Supes is ready or not. If Supes gets dizzy from a car crash through his head,
Then taking a punch from Thanos, who can hit harder than this;
It wouldn't end well for Supes. Thanos punches Cap's Vibranium shield, and sends Cap flying through a rock.
For more Thanos;

The way fight are represented in the MCU is completely different than the dceu. Thanos strikes feat wise have wrecked hulk and Thor and ironman in a few punches. Those 3 heroes durability feats are extensive. Dceu Superman in universe would probably be hurting from any Thanos strike just like hulk and Thor have.
Seeing that he can take this shot from Zod relatively unscathed...Thanos shouldn't be able to hurt him.
Hulk didn't get any damage from this,
Then he got hurt by Thanos.
It’s all down to opinion and how you take the context of the films tbh.
If this isn’t a fight and more scenario based like Thanos has Clark at his mercy like he did Thor then I would say he has him on the ropes after a few more solid strikes than Thor did which only seemed to stop because he had to intercept Stormbreaker.
@tonymartial: Superman is not dropping hulk in 15 seconds flat. No amount of wank will change that
Superman has insane blunt force durability. This guy was taking hits from armoured Batman and being thrown through the walls and building just fine after being weakened by Kryptonite
Zod's bloodlusted knee strike was stated to be able to send an iron safe cast to orbit. To be honest, I can't picture Thanos striking anything to orbit with one strike. Zod and Clark couldn't put each other down with their punches no matter how hard they tried. Their durability is batshit insane.
@the_hajduk: that makes a lot of sense. He does localized damage like a sharp blade. No shockwaves, just concentrated force.
