Appa and Momo run the Avatar Gauntlet

Aang has been captured, and it's up to Appa and Momo to rescue him. Can they do it?

All battles take place outside the walls of Ba Sing Se. Appa and Momo are bloodlusted.

Round 1: Admiral Zhao

Round 2: Season 1 Zuko (no swords)

Round 3: The Rough Rhinos

Round 4: 3 Dai Li agents

Round 5: Mai and Ty Lee

Round 6: Azula (no lightning)

Round 7: Mai, Ty Lee, and Azula (no lightning)

Bonus Round (just for fun)

Fire Lord Ozai

Appa and Momo get their swords and feats from Aang's dream of them fighting (if anyone actually feels like debating this)

Seriously though, Appa could also blast Zuko and knock him around till he's unconscious

@arcus: 3 because i dont know if appa is fast enough to react to the rinos. But if momo stops them from mauling them to death id say at 4 they could just make them sink. Or capture them like in the sand temple arc. The sword team are barely stopped at ozai.

@sacredweapons: I don't remember the Rhinos being particularly fast, not slow either but not so fast Appa couldn't react to them IMO

They don't make it past round 4, Appa might be a beast when he gets angry but these are 3 highly trained earthbenders. The Dai Li are the only earth benders that can even touch Toph in combat.

@strictlyanime: They're the only ones we've seen touch her (not necessarily the only ones that could), after we saw her make like 5 of them look like amateurs

Why do you think they stop there. Any thoughts about the bonus round?

I'd say 6, Azula is too skilled, powerful, intelligent, fast and ferocious, combined with his fear of fire, she should win.

Appa's not afraid of fire anymore, the guru helped him with that, otherwise he probably wouldn't get past round 1.

At all? I thought he still had an issue with it at one point in season 3, I must be misremembering. Azula still beats him.

I don't remember him ever having a problem with it, he was fine during the Invasion

Why do you think they stop at Zhao?

I just don't see Appa handling fire damage well at all. Even with him being helped to get over the fear of it he can still be burned, and Zhao has decent skill with fire bending, and he is ruthless. Appa does have a chance though (especially if Momo can distract Zhao for a few seconds) but I don't see him defeating well trained bender on his own.

Appa clears but loses to Ozai.

I think people are forgetting Appa's lost days. He is faster than anyone here with a clear flight advantage, a massive physical advantage, a huge durability advantage, and has an incredibly powerful airbending tail blast that we've seen mess up Azula's crew before. Literally every time he's gotten involved in a fight he's ended it with a single crushing wind attack.

@arcus: lol on Momo. I agree that Appa has the blast power to KO Zhao if he gets the chance. And I do think he has a chance. I just don't him getting that hit before he is burning, at least not for a majority.

Round 1: Momo flies in and Zhao starts fire bending in all directions trying to hit Momo but Momo dodges all his attacks. While he is distracted Appa flies at Zhao from behind. Zhao turns around and shoots a fire blast at Appa. Appa does a 180 degree spin and blows the fire back with a swing of his tail. The blast of wind Knocks Zhao down and then Appa steps on him.

Round 2: Basically the same as round one.

Round 3: Colonel Mongke and the Rough Rhinos get blown away by Appa's powerful air bending attack. Appa then crushes them all.

Round 4: Momo gets caught in a rock glove when the battle begins. Appa flies at them while they fire rock gloves at him. The rocks hurt Appa but don't do enough damage to stop him. Appa flies at top speed at all of them and crushes half of them. Wind blows in all directions, knocking all the remaining Dai Lee to the ground. Appa finishes them off by stepping on the rest of them.

Round 5: Mai sadly hits Momo with her knives but then Appa comes in and sits on them both.

Round 6: Momo gets burned. Azula keeps Appa away with fire bending but then Appa tries to ram Azula. Azula is too quick and jumps out of the way. She blasts Appa with fire. Appa tries to keep fighting but Azula fires a continues jet of fire at Appa. Azula wins.

Round 7: Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee win with ease.

Bonus round: Ozai shoots Appa with lightning and burns Momo.

Conclusion: Appa and Momo stop at Mai and Ty Lee.

I really want to say they clear because of how much of a badass Appa is. I think they probably stop at Round 6, maybe 7.

Clear based on awesome sauce alone. Otherwise they may stop at Ozai, idk though, Ozai is featless w/o the Comet (besides burning Zukos face).
