    Go! 2

After the riveting first issue in this story line, I wasn't sure what to expect next.  We take a jump a few years into the future... about thirteen if my math is right.  We find young Miss Kane, not so young anymore, and attending West Point Academy.  I guess the fact that she has joined the military is no huge surprise.   We find out more on the personal side of Kate Kane.  She's in love, but unfortunately, the love she has is not the kind allowed by the military.  I like who the writers gave her great integrity here.  She decides to leave the academy instead of lying about her sexuality.  Bold move.  If she is to be the Batwoman, she has to have integrity, right?  It's one of the founding principles of Batman, isn't it?
I like the real human element that is shown here.  She's out of the academy and is really lost for a time, nt sure what she's going to do with her life.  It seems she's just bouncing around in life with no direction.  She gets a chance encounter with Officer Montoya and has a falling in and falling out with her.  I actually would have like this to be explored more.  Maybe it's out there somewhere, for me to find?  What impact did they have on each other.
I like this character... she's strong in will and confidence.  I'm impressed with the writing.  Edgy and deep at the same time (in my humble opinion).  I'm definitely reading the next chapter in this story.

I like Greg Rucka. He's got a knack for stories that feel grounded and real and seems to do his best work when dealing with military and espionage stories. There are even some great relationship scenes that give Kate Kane some serious depth but don't feel contrive. These military and character parts of the story are my favorite. It's when the Turner Classic Movies horror movie rejects show up that I become less and less interested. Why create such a real world only to destroy it with silly chara...

      Detective Comics #859: Don't ask don't tell 0

Homosexuality is a hot topic in the United States. I would be careful to place discrimination against homosexuals in the same context as segregation against African Americans (or those who would allegedly qualify under "Black" race in a check list for Driver's License). After all, I don't remember guards sending dogs to tear apart gay children for shopping in straight grocery markets. No, hatred against homosexuality is a little more covert. Since its harder to distinguish the homosexuals from t...
