CHAOTIC! But still good
Now, I;m going to start off by saying I HATED THE IDEA OF THIS COMIC WHEN I FIRST HEARD OF IT! A TEAM OF DEADPOOLS! IS AXEL ALONSO NUTS?
Then I read the prelude issues and guess what, the corps is constructed of some pretty interesting characters.
Lady Deadpool reminds me of the Joe Kelly days.
Kidpool is interesting... though I don't quite understand him.
Dogpool was a huge surprise. I thought I'd hate him for sure... but his origin is so creative. I instantly fell in love with the mut.
Headpool and Deadpool we've seen before. And they mesh well.
So how does issue one match up now that they are all together? Well think of it this way. Every team usually has a smartass character and a "ready to go guns a' blazin" character. These are seldom the same team mate... not to mention EVERY MEMBER!
It's hard to come up with a group dynamic when everyone basically fulfills the same use. But I don't know how, Gischler does it. He made them all interesting in their own way.
This issue was a little hard to follow with ALL the witty banter... but that also is usually the case for first issues. You have to set stuff up.
I feel optimistic for this book and think it can be good... really good in fact.
I hope it doesn't fall flat on it's face. I like Gischler... but maybe if it does we can get a Lady Deadpool solo book (with Dogpool as a support character), I actually think that would be better but I'll give this book a shot.
That being said about the writing, the artwork is good too. I'm not a huge Leifield fan... I think he can get a little lazy. But he is pulling the stops in this book. The artwork looks so good. From cover to cover, it's all Liefield and it all looks good.
I highly recommend getting this. It's a fun ride. You won't regret it.
