people would have said the same thing about him being in a sci-fi movie prior to Butterfly Effect. Ashton is pretty diverse.
(and yes I thought Sheen was the worst part of Platoon)
It did once,when Charlie replaced Michael j fox on spin city,whether you liked him or not as a replacement it still did well. That said i do not see this change going well. With spin city the change was between two different characters(fox was very work focused well charlie slacked)allowing for charlie's character to grow his own way, and had a very strong supporting cast to keep things normal. Cryer is strong,but 2 and 1/2 is already based on the split between those personality traits,you cant have two john cryers,it wouldn't work,so kutcher would have to be the irresponsible one, leading to comparisons to charlie. Add to that Fox approved of charlie,and stayed around for a few transition episodes(like carell on the office),it made it easier for fans to give the new guy a chance. Charlie wanted to come back and disproved on being replaced,and his not being there to help the change go over may make it jarring for some.
It could be good. Ashton is a funny dude, so I'll give it a shot. As for everyone claiming Sheen is a better actor, how about you give a recent example instead of movies that are 15-20 years old. Sheen may have been a good actor once, but that was a long time ago. The only reason he was good as Charlie Harper is that he was basically playing himself. Not a lot of acting required there.

Let's just stop talking about it as if anyone actually likes this show and just let this crapfest die. The sooner the world is rid of it the better off we'll all be.
They should let the kid take over Charlie's role. Would be hilarious having the other dudes son acting as if he is Charlie Sheen. Aston Kuscher can take over the kids role. Then have a Two and a Half Men/The Practice/Criminal Intent cross over!
I agree. As bad as Charlie Sheen was, the character he played fit him very, very well. Though there are a lot of replacements available, Ashton isn't just one of them. He just won't work.
Ashton's best was The Butterfly Effect. Not disputing his acting chops...BUT replacing any actor that has given a character their soul with someone else is a plain dumb idea all along. Charlie Harper is not just a character that anyone can play Charlie Harper is Charlie Sheen plain and simple. Same goes for when they replaced Evelyn in the last Mummy movie. If anything in a sequel pisses me off, especially after a couple films, its the actor being replaced
