Catwoman Rising
After being disappointed in last year’s Final Crisis, I decided not to keep up with Blackest Night. However, when I saw that they were raising the Catwoman series that came to an end all-to soon, I had to pick up this issue. I was happy to know that I could read this issue without having to stay current with Blackest Night. In fact, the only history you should know when picking up this issue is between Catwoman and Black Mask; she killed him. There it is, that is all you need to know. Now I suggest picking this book up as soon as you can. As an avid Catwoman fan, I was happy with the way the story started out. During the black out Selina decides to take advantage of security systems going down and gets back to her roots: being a thief. It’s unfortunate that we don’t get to see this side of her all that often in Gotham City Sirens. During the robbery Selina encounters the Black Mast and that’s where the real story begins. After rising from the dead Black Mask vows to get revenge on the person who killed him. The new and improved, undead Black Mask has more strength than before and has the capability of flying. I will not mention any more as I don’t want to ruin it for those who haven’t read it yet. I will say that we get to see Selina’s sister, who is in a mental hospital due to the Black Mask torturing her and killing her husband; and Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn do make an appearance. This is the best Catwoman story to come out since the premature ending of the last volume.
