Catwoman Busts Out With a T + rating
Catwoman is not your typical villain. She's not insane like Poison Ivy, Joker or the rest of Batman's rogue. She has an agenda that she works for her own personal needs, and her needs are complex. Writer Judd Winick takes a shot at one of Batman's greatest ally and semi enemy is once again having her own monthly title. Judd Winick says there will be lots of sex, sexy, sexy fun -- but does it satisfy the T + rating?
Fan of Catwoman just to say. I like her relationship with Batman and how they have the on/off relationship. When Talia and Batman had Damian I thought Selina and Bruce's relationship would be over, but Talia was never attending to be a hero of any kind. If New 52 will do anything, it'll have Bruce and Selina hook up [eventually]. Catwoman opens up with Selina in nothing but her underwear, which she's in mostly throughout this entire issue. Judd wasn't kidding when he mentioned lots of "sexy, sexy, sex", true enough artist Guillem March delivers amazing colors and artwork of Catwoman in her underwear. Usually to me as a reader, it seems that the only reason why DC does this is when they take a female character and deliver it to a general audience [mostly male readers]. Which is true. We dudes will just buy up all this stuff. It's cool to be honest. However, I think it seems like one of the most idiotic move that comic publishing companies can possibly make. I do enjoy the balance between the 'flesh' and the fighting, keeps everything centered. Judd Winick is working overtime on a lot of New 52 titles and without any doubt I'm sure that Catwoman will be successful.
Throughout the comic we see Selina work with a new partner for data named Lola. While Selina has lots of cash, she continues to be plagued by criminals who are willing to kill her. We see that she is on the run from super criminals, or so it is seen, and she gets her apartment blown up. Big thumbs up to Guillem March, does a great job at the interior art for this entire comic. No complaints. The faces are comical and are enjoyable with all the bright colors. Nothing as bright as Blackest Night, but enough to say "wow". This comic is a keeper. The character, Lola, you can really tell through March's artwork, that she has had facial plastic surgery since she was an ex-showgirl. Really goes all out on that piece. Continuing through the comic, we see Selina posing as a bartender in a private night club for Russians. With a night club, here comes the chance for writer and artist to place Catwoman in little to no clothes. To be honest it is a really nice eye candy. But like I said before, it's all about character, and how a company wants to portray a certain character. Mostly women. Look at DC Comics Power Girl for example.
If you think all this comic is for is sexy illustrations, there is one scene with Catwoman brutally killing (or from my perspective looks like the guy was killed) or beaten in the bathroom. SO we've got a Catwoman who isn't afraid of really laying down the hurt to evil doers. Batman and Catwoman's relationship in this comic is really young. Catwoman doesn't know who Batman is, and vice versa. They have a relationship, but you've got to read the comic for that stuff. The writing is good, lots of flesh for all those who like reading mature comics like Ryder on The Storm, Y The Last Man, among others. Judd really nails the T + rating and yes, it is for mature audiences. Check it out if you want to, especially the last bit at the end of this issue. One of the New 52's great success, and I can't wait to see what happens in issue 2.
