    A la fin des années 60, avec Bernard Prince, la BD belge va se trouver un nouveau héros d’aventure : décontracté, intelligent et doté d’un humour légèrement caustique (merci, Greg). Très longtemps, les héros de la BD traditionnelle s’étaient contentés de ne pas être drôles.

    Dans les premiers récits courts, Bernard Prince est un héros à la Valhardi, très sûr de lui. Agent d’Interpol, il mène des enquêtes tambour battant dans l’Hexagone. Mais quand Tibet (dessinateur de Ric Hochet) constate le succès grandissant de Bernard Prince, il s’oppose au nouvel inspecteur en arguant qu’il ne peut y avoir de place que pour un seul policier dans le Journal de Tintin. Celui-ci ne peut être, naturellement, que Ric Hochet.

    Afin de donner un avenir à Bernard Prince, Greg le fait démissionner d’Interpol et hériter d’un bateau, le Cormoran.
