Marvel/Disney Announce Second Season of 'Ultimate Spider-Man'

We can expect even more guest stars in the second season.Ult

Looks like people are enjoying the new Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. Marvel has announced that a second season has been ordered by Disney XD. The series debuted in April and has more than doubled its total views.

The series follows the adventures of a youthful Spider-Man who joined S.H.I.E.L.D.'s exclusive training program alongside other superpowered teens to lear what it takes to become Super-Heroes.

With the second season, it appears we'll be seeing even more guest stars.

That's right, Wolverine will be showing up. That makes sense given his past ability to guest star in multiple comic titles each month.

Man of Action will return as Co-Executive Producers along with Creative Consultant Paul Dini and more scripts by ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN comic writer Brian Michael Bendis.

Besides guest stars such as Wolverine and members of the Avengers, we will see more classic Spider-Man villains along with discovering the secret origins of Nova, Iron Fist, Power Man and White Tiger in this animated universe.

Haters.... But I admit I'm kinda disappointed. I like USM, but I liked EMH better, it's not fair this one gets a new season while the other one is axed

@pikahyper: How is it their goof that they used an ACCURATE PORTRAYAL OF LUKE CAGE AND IRON FIST?! Because there is nothing that says shows have to be in the same universe. That's like saying that Young Justice and the Green Lantern show should be in the same universe, which they probably aren't.

@Cafeterialoca: Goof as in it shows they lack communication between the two creative teams. Young Justice and Green Lantern probably aren't in the same universe but they probably should, how is it bizarre to think that the shows coming from the same parent company should be in the same universe? crossover is good cause when ratings are sagging for one show you can crossover characters to bring in more viewers, it's been done in other cartoons and it works pretty well in regular tv shows. The DC animinated universe used to be one big universe, it even has its own Earth number and it was used for the shows and the comics.

@pikahyper: Seriously? The problem was that Loeb was promoted when Season 2 was half done, and Loeb canned the show cause he didn't like it and instead wanted USM. Simple as that. Nothing to do with coherency between universes!

@Cafeterialoca: If that's what you think fine. These shows are about making money and brand cohesion is an important part of marketing, makes it easier to market merchandise, at its core every decision is based on money. Does Loeb have some control over it of course, he has a lot of influence but his bosses make the final decisions and those decisions are still all about the money.

@pikahyper: That ludicrous. Coherency is not the reason why it got canceled. Jeph Loeb didn't like how EMH was run so he's canning it. He is the head of Marvel's Media division! There's no reason to care that much if universe a is in universe b!!!!

Quoted for 1000% truth/sarcasm...

On the other hand, it is Marvel, so...keep that in mind.

True. Marvel has been REALLY pissing me off recently.

@pikahyper: I'm being rational! You want to know what else two different universes of shows offer? Two types of action figures to sell!

Besides, USM doesn't even use story arcs. Nothings going to change, so why worry about putting the two shows together?

The same universe thing is just a way so that people can ease themselves away from convolution. It has NOTHING to do with reasons a show is canceled.

Seriously, how am I being irrational?

@DoctorTrips: I pretty much feel the same way. I will say that I think Drake Bell is possibly the best Voice for Spider-Man I've heard and I like the idea of S.H.I.E.L.D and Nick Fury training him. Not all shows have to have an overarching story and I don't think this one will but there is nothing wrong with that. I do miss Spectacular Spider-Man but I wish these Marvel shows would stop with the fake anime style, it just looks weird. I think the breaking of the fourth wall jokes don't work. Hopefully Marvel animation will take a look and see what works and what doesn't hopefully with fan input.

Im still bummed out the EMH is getting cancelled for some lame episodic Avengers cartoon, so much so I haven't watched the latest couple of episodes. And with all the bad word of mouth I have heard of USM I don't think im gonna watch it.

Im also wondering why they aren't trying to make a new X-Men cartoon, you would think they would still want the property to be in kids minds.

But im really not loosing a lot of cartoons over this, I still have MLP: FIM, Legend of Korra, Young Justice and Green Lantern honestly suprised me by the end of it's season

Well, it could be worse. Every episode could be written, directed, voice acted, and animated by Michael Bay.

I'm I the only one who realized this episode will be the same story as USM issues 66 and 67? That's when Jean Grey makes Peter and Wolverine switch bodies.. Because of the pictures it seems that might be what the story is about.

I don't like this but I am taking note because I want to make my own animated show and it's good to know inbred stupid works well with kids. Hell if this trend keeps going I might not even animate just flash images with funny anime things for twenty minutes.

Kids are morons these days, if you're willing to spend the money you can get kids to watch anything.

The Annoying Orange got a show on Cartoon Network.

Totally agree with the sentiments of Sammo21......AV: EMH was The Avengers show I'd always wished they'd make. Best Marvel cartoon ever. They used the coolest villians (Ultron, Zemo & Masters of Evil, Graviton, Loki, etc), had a great roster of Avengers that stayed true to the characters, good storylines and great cliffhangers/teasers. The ONLY downside was noticeably bad animation at times. But the 2nd season was crazy-good setting up massive battles and great future stories, then they pulled the plug. Uggh.

Now that they've announced a new Avengers Assemble cartoon or whatever the heck they're calling it, here's what I am thinking happened/will happen.....

Marvel used EMH to introduce the Avengers team and characters to a larger audience base in advanced of the big Avengers movie. Then, The Avengers movie made over a billion dollars world-wide and is a mega-franchise that Marvel wants to base everything around. So they took another hard look at the cartoon, saw the crappy animation and decided that wasn't the quality they wanted associated with their flagship brand (The Avengers). So they fired the animation studio, cancelled the show and will relaunch the show as a much better-quality show --- from an animation standpoint. Kinda like trying to do something on the par with Clone Wars (not computer animation, but as far as writing and quality-wise).

The problem....EMH had great writers, a cool universe established and they tapped into the real essence of The Avengers. Now they have to re-introduce everything? I have faith (hope) that they are going to make the new show an off-the-chain good show and are going to try to make "Avengers Assemble" Disney XDs "Clone Wars" (to rival Cartoon Network's success)....but I also have to admit.....it has the makings of a train-wreck. We do not need another Superhero Squad.

As far as USM goes.....I usually DVR it an end up fast-forwarding through the damn thing as it just doesn't grab me at all. I will admit to laughing out loud at the Thor-turned-into-a-frog episode though. There were some funny moments in that episode.

The Avengers movie should have proven to Marvel that if you produce something that caters to what comic book lovers want and love.....that it will become VERY marketable and successful. USM and Superhero Squad are what they are....but please stop. Remember why we buy comics.

Marvel is on crack. What the helllll???????? This gets second season and Avengers EMH gets cancelled, which I love next to young Justice.
DC should teach Marvel abut cartoons and good shows
Marvel should teach DC on how to make a good hit movie.(minus BATMAN)
I will never in a million years watch this crap Spiderman show. ANIMATION LOOKS STUPID ALONG WITH CRAPPY JOKES AND STORY.

I've watched the first few episodes and I don't think this show is terrible or anything but watching them also reminded me that I'm not that big a Spider man fan to begin with. I find the humor to be a bit hit or miss sometimes but I do think the focus on gags is appropriate for Spidey, who always comes off as a comedic superhero. I like most users on the site also believe the style of this humor is clearly more akin to Deadpool than the wall crawler himself. I just can't stand the idea of the Heroes for Hire kids especially if they intend to merge Avengers Assemble's fiction. I am a fan of both the 90s animated series and of course Amazing Friends but I really did not end up liking this show overall so I don't know why they're making a 2nd season. I'll probably end up giving Spectacular a try since most of the comments seem to deem that worthy.

I truly do not understand why EMH can't have a 3rd season when it's so much better compared to Ultimate Spider man. For goodness sakes Spidey has had an animated series running in practically every decade since the 60's. Avengers has had maybe 4 cartoons in all history if you count the Ultimate Avengers movies as one. Those movies weren't very good, United We Stand was a complete disaster, and the 60's cartoon just does not hold up. How much more are they going to squeeze out of Spider man instead of taking more chances on unique ideas for Marvel cartoons?

I'm a little sad that no one calls out the Silver Surfer animated series from the 90's whitch I for one thought it was amazing. I love the idea of a space cartoon built around the Surfer interacting with the galactic Marvel universe. I also thought his voice actor struck the perfect balance of sounding noble without sounding like a pussy. Sure they had some really watered down versions of certain characters but in terms of a kid friendly presentation of his personal journey I found it awe inspiring. I can't say for sure what was the bigger disappointed: that it got cancelled after 13 episodes or that it ended on a bitch of a cliff hanger. I would love to see Marvel give space another chance in a cartoon if not with the Silver Surfer then perhaps just a spin off with EMH's Guardians of the Galaxy.

@MP_SimonWilliams: All right, maybe will be good, but remember when SSP was canceled?

It happened 4 years ago!

A poster of this show was "teased" saying "coming soon" in March of 2008.

Spectacular Spider-Man was canceled because of this!!

I hate this show and I watch every episode hoping that it'll get better.
