Jamie Foxx Possible as Villain in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

There may be sparks flying on the set of the next Spider-Man film.

It might seem early to start discussing villains for the next Spider-Man movie which won't be released until May 2, 2014 but the first will be released on Blu-ray November 9. If you haven't heard already, there's been a rumor about Jamie Foxx joining the cast as Electro (Foxx even Tweeted, "Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well."

Later director Marc Webb, when speaking to press about the Blu-ray/DVD release of The Amazing Spider-Man replied when asked if Foxx would be in the sequel, "I think Jamie Foxx is electrifying! I think Jamie Foxx is one of the best actors around today. He's such a great actor and he's a really brilliant guy. I would love to work with him and you'll be hearing more on that shortly, I'm sure."

This would mark the first time Electro appeared on the big screen. As great a villain he is, would he have enough to be the only one in the sequel or would he play a minor role. Casting Foxx as Electro would suggest he would have more screen time rather than simply having a smaller role.

Webb hinted at other characters that could appear as well.

I like Electro. I'm fascinated by Norman Osborn and the different inflections of him. And Harry. Mary Jane and Gwen are always interesting to me.

There are the obvious connections of Osborn from the first film. If we are going to be introduced to many new characters into this round of films, hopefully they won't clutter up the story as often occurs in comic book movies. We already know that Shailene Woodley has been cast as Mary Jane. It could be possible that Electro would be the main villain with Osborn slowly building up his presence for the Green Goblin to appear in the third movie.

I just want to know if Electro appears, will he have his classic mask?

Zzzz does anyone else get bored by these formulaic movie stories? I wish they would shy away from the same old story:

Minor character development, Hero fights Villain A , minor character development , Hero defeats Villain A in big expensive fight scene, post credits teaser for Villain B, repeat

I guess comics can be the same way (not always though), it would be nice for a movie to prove to the wider audience that it's not always like that, how mind blowing would a Spidey movie be with the focus on something other than a fight scene between Spidey and a bad guy...or is that just me?

I think that's why they always want to remake origin stories into movies, they have an excuse to write something other than fight scenes (and it's easy as the story has already been thought of).

it would be interesting if they took a chapter out of the ultimate marvel storylines and used electro as norman osborn's enforcer instead of a run-of-the-mill villain . ultimate electro was great

How small minded can people be? If the race of a character irks you guess what? YOU'RE SUBTLY RACIST. I understand slightly because hell if Blade was played by Tom Cruise I might throw a fit but my whole thing is CHARACTER not RACE. if Jet Li played Blade I'd have no problem, he's bad assed, If Luke Cage was played by Vin Diesel AGAIN wouldnt be mad, The Rock doesnt look like a Black guy at all but him as Road Block doesnt bother me because "HE'S STILL A BIG BAD DUDE". Yall can rationalize and make excuses all you want but race shouldnt play as big a factor in enjoying your favorite comic character as the actual portrayal does UNLESS you're racist. And alot of yall are in denial about that. Personally I'd like to see a Constatine made with a Latin gentleman. Dont know why just seems like a cool idea and would probably be better then Keanu's.

For Heimdall, I was against it at first, but after watching Thor, I honestly liked the character, regardless if he was played by an African American.

Actually, Idris Elba isn't African American, he's English.

I agree with most here that Electro would not have been my villain of choice for any of the films. Though, Jamie Foxx is an excellent actor and as long as the character development for Electro is completely redefining, it could be a surprise hit. I didn't like the Lizard as a choice for a film villain and after watching TAS, it just confirmed for me that his character development wasn't done well at all. It should have been done more like the "Torment" storyline that Todd McFarlane did, bu then that would have probably made the film too dark. Though, I feel that with a character like the Lizard, the whole film has to be more dark because I think any of us would probably become a psychotic sociopath if we turned ourselves into a big @$$ lizard. lol I think to make Electro more compelling, they should make his motivations a complete mystery that probably doesn't actually get reveled unto the 3rd film. To me that wold make him seem even more dangerous an unpredictable because Spider-man (and the audience) just doesn't truly know why he's doing what he's doing. I think Foxx could play on this mystery very well with good script writing. Plus, even though Peter isn't a big time detective like Bruce Wayne, he is smart enough that they should show him using his intelligence in deductive reasoning just as they played up his intelligence in science in the first film. Spider-man is more than just a wise-cracking joker, and I like how the last movie showed this more that the first 3 films...they should continue with this type of character development.

@onyxwave:

I wish that Marc Webb didn't try to mimic too hard the dark tone of the Nolan films in order to amp up the emotions of Spider-man. While Spidey's life has sucked almost as much as Batman (maybe more since he hasn't inherited anything), he has humor. Batman's only humor are from Robin and Alfred.

Make it more like the Animated Series (90's), but less kiddy and make the cheese into something productive. (I'd kill to see a film version of the Lizard King episode though, but with a real Lizard, not the Koopa thing released in the official movie.)

If they get the right suit this could work VERY well. Jamie isn't a terrible actor and he can pull it off. Still depends on the outfit the first Eletro outfit would look kinda silly in the real world big screen. The ultimate suit would go nice.

@Mahzian: Honestly i'm just hoping for them to break the spiderman movie trend that goes around.

A. Spidey fights villain and probably loses or lets him get away.

B. Villain founds out spiderman is peter parker.

C. Some how ends up attacking him girlfriend(Not aunt may the real threat.)

D. Spidey beats villain and somehow the villain refuses to tell who parker is for some strange reason,

Come on Electro is such a one note, two dimensional character that you can cast any actor in the role, give him any back story and it would work. Why are we getting in such a frenzy because he's black. Honestly i hope they go with Electro as the villain because having a villain in a Spidey film that doesn't have a split personalty or sob story and wants to be bad for the sake of being bad is actually kinda refreshing.

Foxx would be a terrible actor for this, it would make electro look nothing like he is supposed to look like. They should make spidey fight a couple lesser super villians like rhino and scorpion and then fight a real villain like venom or hob-goblin for the next movie, but definitely not electro while foxx is playing him
