Awesome Toy Picks: LEGO Superman 'Black Zero Escape'

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Every week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. With Man of Steel due in theaters in a couple weeks, the Superman-related merchandise has arrived on store shelves. The bad news is, most of it is pretty bad - except for the LEGO Superman products. This week we'll look at the 'Black Zero Escape' set.

What does 'Black Zero Escape' mean? Chances are it has something to do with the movie. We'll have to wait and see. For some reason, the red-haired Lois Lane somehow ends up on one of General Zod's ships or constructs. She'll have to get away in an escape pod while Superman fights Zod.

The set has 168 pieces. There is a larger Man of Steel LEGO set. It retails for about $20 so it's a good deal if you're looking for a Superman, Lois and Zod.

The way I see it, Lois is snooping reporting and somehow gains access to Zod's place.

She hears someone coming and there's only one place to hide.

Turns out it's Zod himself. Clearly he won't be too happy to find a pesky Earthling going through his stuff. This could be bad news for Lois. If only we could get John Williams' score to cue the entrance of a certain LEGO hero. Maybe if we all start humming it RIGHT NOW, Lois can be saved!

Superman isn't happy to find out the woman he has a crush on is in jeopardy. So you know what that means. It's time for a LEGO fight!

With a swift super-punch, Superman manages to get Zod out of the way so he can launch Lois to safety. You can imagine if two Kryptonians were fighting, it wouldn't be safe for a human to be around.

Of course LEGO Superman will win. It's his LEGO set after all. As for how this scene will play out in the movie, if it even does, we'll have to wait and see.

That's it for this week. We'll have another comic book collectible in the spotlight next time.

Black Zero was an event on Krypton in the comics not sure what they are doing with Black Zero in the Movie.

Black Zero has been many things but never an event. Pre-crisis Black Zero was the name of the villain ultimately responsible for the destruction of Kyrpton. Post-crisis Black Zero was the name of the organization ultimately responsible for the destruction of Kyrpton as well as the (very badass) hypertime traveling Superboy villain.

I wonder if the fact that it's called "black zero" is a spoiler since black zero was a kryptonian figure who I think Zod's military fought against as he tried to rule krypton before Zod.

When you said about humming the tune for some strange reason I started to hum the "Duel of Fates" tune from Star Wars 1.

That last pick most certainly looks like something one would see of Superman. I also wouldn't mind having that Zod Lego.

Why humming the Williams theme? I would rather hum the new one by Hans Zimmer which for me, as someone who didn't grow up with the old Superman movies, is by far the better one! I LOVE me some Zimmer MOS score! The theme, I suspect, is the part thats plaIng when Superman first takes flight in trailer 3, with the uplifting notes and those bad ass war drums!

Yes, I am almost as excited to get the score on my Ipod as to see the movie.

The 3 figures and especially Zod in combat armor look awesome but the rest of the set isn't very interesting. I'm way more excited about the Ewok Village.

This box says "comic book included". Which one?
