Every week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. With Man of Steel due in theaters in a couple weeks, the Superman-related merchandise has arrived on store shelves. The bad news is, most of it is pretty bad - except for the LEGO Superman products. This week we'll look at the 'Black Zero Escape' set.
What does 'Black Zero Escape' mean? Chances are it has something to do with the movie. We'll have to wait and see. For some reason, the red-haired Lois Lane somehow ends up on one of General Zod's ships or constructs. She'll have to get away in an escape pod while Superman fights Zod.
The set has 168 pieces. There is a larger Man of Steel LEGO set. It retails for about $20 so it's a good deal if you're looking for a Superman, Lois and Zod.
The way I see it, Lois is snooping reporting and somehow gains access to Zod's place.
She hears someone coming and there's only one place to hide.
Turns out it's Zod himself. Clearly he won't be too happy to find a pesky Earthling going through his stuff. This could be bad news for Lois. If only we could get John Williams' score to cue the entrance of a certain LEGO hero. Maybe if we all start humming it RIGHT NOW, Lois can be saved!
Superman isn't happy to find out the woman he has a crush on is in jeopardy. So you know what that means. It's time for a LEGO fight!
With a swift super-punch, Superman manages to get Zod out of the way so he can launch Lois to safety. You can imagine if two Kryptonians were fighting, it wouldn't be safe for a human to be around.
Of course LEGO Superman will win. It's his LEGO set after all. As for how this scene will play out in the movie, if it even does, we'll have to wait and see.
That's it for this week. We'll have another comic book collectible in the spotlight next time.
