leadervladimir's Action Comics #0 - The Boy Who Stole Superman's Cape; Origin of the Species review

    Prologue

I'm excited by the Zero Month. It's a good opportunity to see our heroes in a new, unexpected way: as fallible human beings. In this issue, we learn about Superman's early apperances in Metropolis. It's not in an epic level as Superman and the Men of Steel, but it allows us to know about Clark before his big days as Metropolis' protector.

New events include his friendship with Jimmy Olsen, his first meeting with Lois Lane, and the story of how a boy took Superman's cape. Sure, the story was fun but the premise was a bit silly. Basically, Superman is unconscious and some random kid takes his cape. Hey, kid, it doesn't matter if that person is incapacitated, it's wrong to steal his belonging. Heheheh.

The other story focuses on Captain Comet, the Forgotten Superman. A boy finds a research document on Captain Comet and decides to find him, believing that he has the key to unlock humanity's evolutionary advancement. Needless to say, he finds more than he imagined.

The stories are well-written and allow you to immerse yourself deeper into the Superman universe. I hope Grant Morrison can expand his story. He never stops surprising us. As we all know, he is leaving the title in Issue $16, I hope he can deliver.

    That's it. Good reading!

I really like how Ben Oliver is doing art on this issue as I was a bit disappointed when he stopped doing it for Batwing. This issue shows Clark getting his job at the Daily Star and we see when Clark decided to move into his own apartment. After getting knocked down by an RPG whilst trying to save a woman a kid decides to steal his cape. Lois a...

This may not have been the most exciting issue of Action Comics published since Grant Morrison took over the book, but it’s well-crafted and has a sentimental charm all its own. By the second page, George Taylor tells you the key to reading this plot: “The story never comes before the people in the story.” True to these words, Morrison uses his issue #0 to flesh out the unique personalities in this version of Metropolis. I’m continually impressed by this New 52 version of Clark Kent. I was perpe...
