Poll Has the MCU surpassed Spider-Man 2? (75 votes)
Does any MCU movie beat Raimi's sequel?
Does any MCU movie beat Raimi's sequel?
No, not really. There are other superhero movies that have surpassed Spider-Man 2, but not anything from the MCU imo.
Nope. The only Marvel film above it is Logan.
How impactful was said series at its time? For this generation its more or less the MCU, but at the time, Spiderman 2 was the talk. Spiderman 2 holds a special place in my heart.
Wouldn't say any of the MCU films are "better" per se, but I prefer the first 2 Cap films and Thor 1.
Factoring in everything, the majority of the MCU is below Spider-Man 2 - the only 2 movies that I'd put above it are Captain America: The First Avenger, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Even then, in my opinion, SM2 still surpasses the entirety of the MCU in regards to the quality of its narrative - including the 2 aforementioned films - as its exploration of Peter's want to give up because his life is hard vs his need to accept his responsibility is far more impactful and deep than anything explored in any other MCU movie. The only reason I have the Cap movies above it at all is that I detest Rami's style - the camp factor is a major negative for the movie - which allows for the Cap movies to make up for their worse narrative in other areas.

Yes! A fellow Thor 1 fan!
@mutant1230: It's a very underrated film imo. One of only 3 from the MCU that I actually like.
SM2 wasn't anything extraordinary.
I'd put TWS, Civil War, Infinity War, Avengers, Iron Man all above it. Maybe more.
Iron man, Captain America 2 and 3, Avengers 1, 3,and 4, Thor Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, and both of the new Spider-Man movies are all better.

I assume that the other two are The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier?
If you don't mind me asking, what didn't you like about Civil War and Infinity War?
In terms of solo films only winter soilder can compete.
Comparing it to the team movies isn’t really fair

I actually rewatched this yesterday and was surprised at how good it was. Easily in my top 5 mcu films; potentially top 3.

Yeah.
If you don't mind me asking, what didn't you like about Civil War and Infinity War?
Civil War has overarching issues with its premise that prevent me from getting invested in its story. Tony agreeing with what the government are suggesting is really bizarre considering the death count they were rambling about would have been substantially higher had the Avengers been regulated and controlled. Someone as intelligent as he is falling for this really dumb/frankly nonsensical argument, and thinking him putting himself under the thumb of people with agendas is the answer, is both illogical and robs the conflict of any real weight. You never stop to consider the fact that Tony might be right, and that sours me on the whole experience. Throw in Zemo, who was an extremely poor villain, and you get a movie that's heavily dislikeable. The only real positives to it are the Cap/Bucky dynamic and Panther's arc, which just aren't enough for me. It's not bottom of the barrel terrible, but it's certainly not good, and would only get like a 4-5/10 from me.
As for Infinity War, my issue with it is that it's largely contingent on you liking prior MCU films. The cast is so big that their impact is diluted to a point where none of them really get a chance to make me care or feel, so the whole experience rings hollow. And since I find pretty much all the other MCU movies to be below average (a fine way to kill 2 hours, but not anything I particularly give a damn about or feel anything towards) the whole thing falls flat. Also not particularly fond of Thanos as a villain, but I digress. It'd probs get a 4/10 on the whole to be honest.
IMO TWS is better than Spider-Man 2
You still think this?

Yes. What I liked about TWS is the intensity and solid action sequences.
Iron Man, GOTG, Infinity War, Civil War, Winter Soldier, Endgame & Ragnarok are clear of SM2.
infinity war and nwh are both respectively the best in mcu at least to me. but no, will never be comparable to raimi trilogy. even spiderman 3 which is quite lower quality than first 2 films is still a cinematic masterpiece by comparison to mcu.
not yet, SM2 really has that cheesiness of the comics that the MCU usually lacks, despite the fact that the CGI is not comparable, SM2 was truly the best of its time, the action and characters are very good at a technical level, and I feel like everyone outside of MJ has their best characterization in SM2.
Although I would say that SM3 is still the most rewatchable, the action and amount of fights presented in the movie is very constant, off topic, but I just wanted to share that.
Yes, lots.
Spider-Man 2 is a really good film but I don’t see it as the ‘masterpiece’ that lots of people seem to see it as
Yup.
Infinity War, No Way Home, The Winter Soldier, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok, Civil War, Iron Man 3 and Black Panther all surpass it.

Your list is valid and you just guessed my favorite films of the infinity saga.
if homecoming, ffh and avengers 2012 were there though…
