This series launched with the return of legendary artist Joe Madureira (X-Men, Battle Chasers) and fan-favorite Spider-Man writer Zeb Wells in a brand new monthly Spider-series that teams the wall-crawler up with some of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe.
However Joe Madureira left the book after 3 issues and a rotating cast of artists illustrated each issue since, including Greg Land, Leinil Yu, Stuart Immonen and Marco Checchetto. Zeb Wells also left the series, this time after 6 issues, and again a rotating cast of writers were employed including Mark Waid and regular Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott.
Issues #9 & #10 saw Kelly Sue DeConnick and Terry Dodson take over writing and art duties respectively. Both issues featured Carol Danvers and acted as the prologue to DeConnick's new Captain Marvel series.
Zeb Wells returned to write issue #11 which was a special 50th Anniversary issue. Following this the writer and artist rotations resumed with Kevin Shinick and Aaron Kuder writing and illustrating issues #12 & #13 and Cullen Bunn and Gabriele Dell'Otto taking over for issue #14 & #15.
Issue 15.1, which directly follows the hugely popular and controversial Amazing Spider-Man #700, saw the new regular writer and artist team of Christopher Yost and Paco Medina take over the series. From this issue onward, Avenging Spider-Man follows the adventures of the new Superior Spider-Man. Issue #16 also sees the series adopt the red Marvel NOW! banner.
The series was rebooted as Superior Spider-Man Team-Up after Doctor Octopus became the Superior Spider-Man.
