The cruiser carrying Angela McCloud and Betty Nutton, and which were heading to the island of Tinian where the latter was to perform a show, is hit by two "bakas", these terrifying Japanese flying bombs piloted by kamikazes... the two survivors must land on the island of Iwo Jima, freshly reconquered by the marines. Victim of a nervous breakdown, the actress is repatriated to Hawaii and Angela, finally freed from her role of "nanny", happily accepts the function of "Josephine", nickname given to the pilot of "Mustang" equipped with a jettisonable rescue pod, and responsible for patrolling off Iwo Jima, in search of shipwrecked pilots who had to eject.
On Black Sands Island, our intrepid WASP will be surprised to find the pilot Rob, his "sweetheart", who left the "Burma Banshees"; the dashing pilot now performs long escort missions for the B-29 formations that bomb Japan. Our heroine does not forget that she must absolutely find a way to reach the island of Tinian where, she is convinced, is the solution to the riddle concerning the murder of her sister Maureen... But Iwo Jima is not fully reconquered and there remains a pocket of resistance in the north of the island; Precisely the last Japanese troops launch a great suicide attack...
