So...what happened to Brother Night and The Spectre?
Synopsis: The showdown between Zatanna and The Spectre!! Who will win? Wait, where the hell is The Spectre?!
What's Good?
Make no mistake, despite what the cover states, Paul Dini is not the writer. Instead, Derek Fridolfs takes his place in another false pretense issue. Instead, we get a cult that ambushes Zatanna planning to kill her due to her being a "Witch". What Fridolfs accomplish with this issue is having Zatanna showing off her other skills besides magic. Seeing how Zee must speak to cast magic, taking that away from her puts her in a slight disadvantage, but she prevails anyway.
Once again, lovely cover art by Adam Hughes. Jamal Igle gets the job done with the artwork for the story.
What's Bad?
Okay, I realize that like the previous issue, the plot summary stated for this issue is false. That being said, I have to comment about this. I don't want to make this sound like a rant. I was lenient on the previous issue, because I thought it was a good issue. There are other DC titles that are having some, let's say, unusual finales thanks to the relauch coming. Since Zatanna is one of those unfortunate titles not on the relaunch list, wouldn't it be better just to finish her series dealing with Brother Night instead of having these single story issues?
But about the story itself, my only problem is that Zatanna could had used blood magic to heal her wound like she did in a issue a while back. It was nice to see her not resort to that, but it just something I needed to point out.
Overall: I did enjoy this issue as well like the previous issue, despite the false summary. Apparently, in the final issue, Zee is supposed to get an apprentice. Considering how these last two issues went, I wouldn't hold my breath on that, but I could be wrong. Hopefully, we'll see a good finale whatever which story they decide to go with.
