Sara and Patrick discover a murder that is out of the ordinary, but who is behind this out-of-this-world murder? Witchblade #140 Paper Monsters: Part 1

    The Good

The first thing you'll notice about this issue is that the art is so cool. Stjepan Sejic put this together, and I don't know if it's done in water color or oil, but it's incredibly detailed work and it's one of my favorite art styles in comics right now: realism. The story has little to do with the actual Witchblade, which is good, since this is my first Witchblade comic, and I don't feel overwhelmed with some of back story and history of this book. It's a well put together detective story featuring Sara and Patrick finding out who murdered a man. In addition, because I'm a new reader to the book, I really appreciate the first page catch up and overview of the character and surrounding story. Without giving too much away, I love the direction this story seems to be taking with the children, it reminds me of one of the stories from Tales from the Hood. (If you've seen the movie and read the comic, you know what I mean) I'm very excited to see how this plays out.

    The Bad

There's a bit of history between the two detectives, which I got a bit from the opening page, but I did feel the tiniest bit lost when it came their relationship and job. I'm not sure if they're regular cops or cops who only deal with the super-natural.

The Verdict 4.5/5 - Highly Recommended

    Great Jumping on Point

If you like a good cop/detective story, you'll love this issue. This week is a very small week for books, especially good, quality series, so your best bet, if you want to read something that is awesome, is to pick up Witchblade. Sadly, I can't believe I've been putting off Top Cow books for so long. Everything I've read by them in this past year (Darkness, Artifacts, and Magdalena) has been some of my favorite stuff of the year. I highly recommend this issue.

I'm pretty sure all of Stjepan Sejic's art is done digitally, which makes it even more amazing!

It's about time this website started paying some attention to the Top Cow universe of excellent comics.  It's much better for doing it.

There's been a little bit more focus on indy books at the site this past year, and as long as people are digging on it, we'll keep doing it. I plan on reading/reviewing a buttload more Top Cow, Image, Dark Horse, Boom!, etc books for all the indy fans starting next year.

That's great. Could you slip in some stuff from Radical, too? They need some love.

The cover reminds me of classic horror comic covers, not a bad thing!
