Hopefully we'll get some breaking news today about the settlement talks that Fox and Warner Bros. had over the weekend.
Over this past weekend, the TV ads for the movie hit the small screen. The one thing to note is it still has the March 6 release date. I do have to say that when I first read Watchmen, I never thought I'd see a commercial for it on my television.
Watchmen
Team » Watchmen appears in 44 issues.
Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The grouping of heroes and villains contained in the work are not, in fact, named "The Watchmen", though they were at one point referred to as "Crimebusters". Rorschach, Nite Owl and Dr. Manhattan were the team's primary heroes.
Watchmen TV Spot Airs Over The Weekend
i went and saw gran torino this weekend (great movie by the way) but they had a watchmen trailer and i was wondering if they aren't even sure if the movie is going to be released and warner bros isn't even allowed to work on it right now then why are they still airing trailers all over the place with the march 6th release date attached
Yea that ad was all over the NFL playoffs, they must be pretty confident they'll solve their dispute to be buying up those ad spaces.
Some people have said this is all a publicity stunt. Maybe they've already settled and Fox agreed to be the bad guy in return for a payout from the profits. I still like the Japanese trailer better.

Gran Torino was AMAZING....loved that movie....and I loved the Watchman previews I saw too....it had rorshach in it.

Judges tend not to be receptive to using the court system for movie publicity stunts, I'm pretty sure that'd be grounds for some sort of disciplinary action against the lawyers involved too, wasting court time and all.
The judge did suggest they settle. Maybe they secretly started? It's weird that Warner Bros. was so insistent that they wouldn't. They had the Jan. 20 date. They asked for it to be moved up. When they got a hearing scheduled for last Friday, they asked to postpone that since they had decided to try to talk things over.
It's just weird that there hasn't been a single peep all day. I'm sure once I'm away from my computer something will break.
Maybe they're just now waking up from their post-Golden Globes celebratory champagne and coke parties and didn't have a chance to get an article in Variety or a court filing in? Who knows. I'm not seeing how this builds up excitement for the film though. Maybe they're going after that paralegals that read entertainment news blogs demographic.
There was a bunch of news last week so maybe that will be it for a while.
