    Superman and The Outsiders...sort of.

As a long time fan of The Outsiders and someone who was disappointed with the run by Tomasi, which never really found it's feet,I was looking forward to the series getting a kick start. The result was a mixture of good and bad.I liked the idea of Brion moving operations to Markovia and effectively breaking ties with Alfred, that never really worked for me and taking them out of the Bat universe should open the way for more interesting stories. In general the characterisations seem about right,it;s understandable that Geo-Force would have been deeply affected by recent events and likewise Katana who seems to want revenge on the world. The tension this causes between her and Black Lightning could be an interesting story thread in upcoming issues.Other characters don't get much attention here which didn't feel right and one scene between Rex and Jack Ryder just felt strange. The introduction of a new member to the team at the end of the issue just left me with a lets wait and see attitude,it could be really interesting and will almost certainly lead to power struggles within the team but like I said we'll have to wait and see.
The art by Philip Tan is excellent the only slight complaint being that his style might be a little dark for a straight up superhero title. There also looked to be some fill in work from Don Kramer which isn't bad it just jars very strongly with the rest of the book.
As an issue in itself this is ok but never brilliant,it's more about the story threads that are introduced which will make you want to keep reading and as a fan of the characters I hope this creative team can renew interest in the title.
