    League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen

This is a dark time for the League as they are betrayed by one of their own and Mina is beaten mercilessly.  As the aliens establish a beachhead in Europe.  I was disappointed in the betrayal because it was too obvious.  In other words the characters should have saw it coming.  There was no subtlety to the story.

The beating of Wilhelmina was pretty sadistic as well.  It was not enough to take her out but she was humiliated first.  I am torn about how I felt about this development.  It adds a lot of drama for the Wilhelmina character but the sadism is fourteen panels of the book and it is pretty gross/sad.  It is a big moment for the character of Wilhelmina's character and should be handled well but I fear it won't.  She has done little to show her worth to the team in these comics and she needs to be more than the victim.

It is amazing how this story goes.  It is like a car crash.  You are sickened and yet you can't stop looking.  The whole concept is absolutely brilliant and the stories are great.

    The New Traveller's Almanac

This is one of my favorite parts of the book.  It is a lot reading that I think many ignore but I hope they don't.  My experience is too many comic fans don't like to read.  In this book we are talking about classic characters from literature.  To have no clue as to where they came from only hurts the reader.

In the Almanac the focus is on the America's and the places in classic literature.  My absolutely favorite reference is a book called Flatlands.  This is a very old short novel.  It is very philosophically filled book and is very obscure.  When I read it for a Christian Theology class is was out of print and I ended up reading a xerox copy of the book.  You can buy the book for a couple of bucks today.  This is truly amazing that it was a referenced in this book.

I love this book and recommend it to any mature reader.  This is a great journey.  Enjoy it.  I gave the book four stars over all.
