Iron Fist is Back!
I usually hate stories that have multiple artists in the same issue. The end result is usually distracting and annoying. With that said... the total opposite happens with this book. Most of the artists compliment each other very well. Maybe it doesn't count as "one story" because Foreman, Fridolfs and Heath handle the flashbacks, it still feels like this is the same world, just a different time period. That of course being the desired effect. David Aja is however the superior artist here, and handles the main story. He's a natural for Iron Fist's fight scenes and acrobatics.
The issue opens up with a flashback of yet another Iron Fist from the past. These are handled very well. They're just long enough to keep me interested, but short enough that it doesn't feel like it's taking anything away from the main storyline. I almost look forward to these flashbacks as much as the main story. They always feature a completely different Iron Fist, that feels like a fully thought out character, instead of just a rip off of Danny Rand.
The main story doesn't advance much in this issue however... and there's even less action. We do find out who was after Orson Randall... but not why. Danny Rand sets out to get some answers... but spends most of the issue going over what has already happened, and going over what he plans to do.
We are introduced to a new villain, but the closing moments are without a doubt the highlight of the book. We have a great confrontation between two characters that I thought was perfectly illustrated. Aja even uses some "old school" effects that are just great and fit the mood perfectly. The issue does close with a revelation, nothing to shocking... but interesting none the less.
Although I thought overall this issue wasn't as strong as the 2 before it, it's still better then most of the comic books you'll find on the rack today.
