The Fury of Firestorm #10 Review
Overview:
Pozhar and Ronnie meet Rakshasi and Jason and Firehawk deal with their fusion.
The Good:
This issue finally gets into Pozhar and why he is helping Ronnie and hunting rogue Firestorms. The answer is satisfying because it doesn’t give away everything. Rakshasi has some good potential of being a good ally and seeing how people from different countries and cultures use the same power set is interesting. As far as the writing goes, it is fairly standard for the series, it is not amazing but not bad either, it is good.
Where this book really shines is the art. Yildiray Cinar does a fantastic job giving the Firestorm’s unique appearances and his pencils are complimented perfectly by HIFI and it really brings a mediocre story to a good level.
This issue starts to address what happened to Dr. Stein and what the rogue Firestorms are doing.
The Bad:
In this issue, and the series as a whole, not a lot happens. This is because since Ronnie and Jason split up, each needs to get panel time and it slows the story down, not the worst thing in the world but this series needs to pick up the pace or readers might abandon it in favor of something faster paced. The main problem I see is that there is a lack of focus as to whether Jason or Ronnie should receive more panel time and this causes stagnation.
While the issue does start to answer questions about Dr. Stein and the rogues, it stops and then raises more questions. The series is developing a “Lost” like feel and that is not good because the pacing is choppy enough as it is.
Verdict:
A decent issue that is on par for the series, with writing that is raising far more questions than answers, the art is where this issue (and series) really shines. This issue is not for new readers as it is about half way through the current arc and three quarters of the way through a bigger one; readers who have been reading the series from the beginning can expect more of the same and while satisfying, is not particularly good or bad.
