Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
We are getting ready to cross the finish line of this epic rotting tale.
Swamp Thing is in Gotham and last issue we found out what happened to Batman. I think Scott Synder got some old issues of "Stan Lee Writes the DC Universe", as Batman is a giant bat.
We also find out exactly what is up with Barbara and her bat power from last issue. We find out there is a little hope in Gotham, and Batman left Swamp Thing a present to help put an end to the Reign of the Rot.
The survivors of Gotham are hiding in an area called New Gotham, and it makes sense the location. Of course this being a comic, nothing can go the easy way, and New Gotham gets comprised.
Getting out and marching to the Rot Kingdom, Swamp Thing has an ace up his sleeve that might just win this war.
We also get a few more questions answered, as to what happened to Abby. As I mentioned in my review for Animal Man, this big series has always had a feeling of hopelessness. For every step the heroes take, the villains are three steps ahead. The end of this book is the first shot of hope we've had. It also kind of expands a little on the ending of Animal Man, so I think that Animal Man should be read first (I don't know of anyone only reading one of these, you can skip Frankenstein's series and be ok though).
Next month we get the big strong showdown. I love the fact that this book is one giant story. I know some people are tired of it, but not me. I would rather have a big story than one made just to fill trades. Of course some can go on too long, but that's not the case here.
The Green and Red will eventually have to win, but I can't figure out how. The secret weapon Swamp Thing has really doesn't guarantee anything.
It's going to be a shame when Scott Synder leaves, and hopefully the book doesn't suffer without him. This and Animal Man are two of my favorites from the New 52, and two I was having second thoughts on. I think this crossover flows so much better than the ones happening in Green Lantern and Superman. I can't wait to see what happens next.
