    Stormwatch #9

    Stormwarch #9

A Red Lantern comes to Earth and Stormwatch picks up an odd character in Italy. Is it too much for the team?

    The Good:

I’ll be honest with you, I hadn’t picked up a Stormwatch book one time until two days ago where I went out on a whim and picked up the whole series up to issue #9, and I’m glad I did. This title has been consistently good from start to finish. I was sad when Paul Cornell was taken off the book but Paul Jenkins picked right up and kept it going well, and Peter Milligan, after Jenkins, did as well for this issue.

The cover, and just the art in general, are really good. Miguel Sepulveda has great detail in his work and Alex Sinclair puts the icing on the cake with the colors. Stormwatch goes on some pretty crazy missions, and the artistic team has been there to deliver for all of them.

The cover shows Apollo and Midnighter fighting a Red Lantern and that battle throughout the first half of the comic is fantastic. I wasn’t sure how they would have the Red Lantern act and fight but it was executed quite nicely. There is also a very interesting part where a Red Lantern ring talks to a member of the team, but I won’t tell who.

Martian Manhunter is my favorite character of this series, his attitude towards the team and his part of Stormwatch is just awesome. He knows ample amounts of information about the obstacle they are going up against and I love that.

    The Bad:

My main problem with this issue is the relationship between Apollo and Midnighter. It is not the fact that the two characters are gay; that doesn’t bother me in the slightest, what bothers me is dialogue between the two characters. I think the cheesy flirting is just too much, like the situation is being pushed too hard. In issues 1-6 the two characters liked each other and everything was smooth. Other than that, this issue was solid.

    The Judgement:

This book is very enjoyable, I’ve sat down and read every issue from front to back without stopping. The interaction between the team and the missions they go on are always so much fun for me, I can’t wait for issue 10!

Peter Milligan comes on as writer this month and he brings with him some baddies he's familiar with as he pits Stormwatch against the Red Lantern, Skallox! Series regular artist Miguel Sepulveda also returns and his time off seems to have stepped up his A-game for this new direction for the title.Stormwatch as a title seems to always attract good writers. Ever since Warren Ellis had his hands in this title back in the day, each incarnation of the team has always been unique and interesting. Even...

So, Miguel Sepulveda seemed to have been the master of covers that have seemingly boring designs, but have such INCREDIBLE balance that they manage to impress me. He's lost his touch though. These past few have been pretty standard cover fare, and this one is probably the worst of the bunch. Everyone feels like they were just plopped down onto the paper with an overly hectic background. And Skallox.... looks like his torso is completely backwards.Thankfully this decline does NOT extend past the ...
