Virgil "Static" Hawkins was exposed to a mutagenic gas that swept his city of Dakota, which gave him and other 'bang babies" superpowers. With the ability to control electromagnetism, Static joined the Teen Titans and continues to protect his city while serving on the team.

Static lasted just as long as the other Warner Bros. DC cartoons.OR at least close enough.

I wish I could find the tapes, or DVDs or whatever, at FYE or a video shop. Do they even exist? Hell, they're putting the rest of the DCU cartoons on Itunes, Why not Static Shock?
Lord, I miss that show.

How long a cartoon lasts here in the states usually has nothing to do with how good it is or whether or not people like it.  Fact of the matter is, once a kids show hits the magic 52 episode mark, it becomes eligible for synidcation.  At that point, its pure profit for the producers and they no longer have any motivation to continue working on it.  They move on to their next program.
