In some ways it's a little bit of a bummer that we haven't had another Spider-Man movie yet.  The good thing is it gives everyone time to think about what did and didn't work in the third movie and more reason to do even better next time around.  Actor J.K. Simmons, who played J. Jonah Jameson told MTV at Sundance that he will return in the fourth Spider-Man movie and that filming will begin in 2010.

It seems that Tobey McGuire and Sam Raimi haven't officially committed to returning.  I thought they had.  Kirsten Dunst hasn't been confirmed even though she's stated that she'd like to return.

Simmons has been great as JJJ.  Could we see more of him in the next movie?
“I saw Sam [Raimi] at his Christmas party.  We’ve definitely brainstormed ideas for Triple-J, but I have no desire to make Triple-J more of the focus of those movies,” he said. “The amount that I did in 1, 2 and 3, is just exactly right. Like be the wolf. Come in, blow in, do a week, blow out, be the comic relief, and hit the road. And let Tobey and everybody else do the heavy lifting.”

That is true.  He came in, nailed his scene and was done.  At least the writers will have a year to knock out a really great script.  I hope they will watch the previous films and not make the same mistakes.  I've enjoyed the movies but to be honest, there is room for improvement.  I look forward to hearing more about this.

I look forward to it. Even though I didn't like Spider-Man 3 much, I did enjoy one and two. Hopefully, with all the time off they've had, they've thought about a good script and refined it further.

I won't be too torn up if Mcguire leaves. He's okay as Parker, but, I dunno, he can't really deliver the lines for Spidey as well. I always thought Dunst was pretty good as MJ, but if they find another actress it'll be okay (if a little awkward).

And, yeah, Simmons is perfect for Jonah. He nails the character.

I'd be more upset if Simmons didn't return.  Don't care if no one else did.  Do Spidey right, blast it, dump Dunst, hire a director who won't interject over the top tongue in cheek crap, and an actor that isn't all whiny and can portray Parker/Spidey as a nerd and as a confident super hero.  I'm still waiting for Spidey's infamous verbal jabs, one-liners and wit.  The only line I can recall is his "Where did you get your outfit?  Did your husband make that for you?" in the cage match in Spidey #1.  Funny shee-yot, bring it back!

    I agree

The 3rd movie was okay, yet seeing the Incredible Hulk and Iron Man in 2008, they could have made it a LOT better.

I heard that too, but I'll thank the heavens if they're not in it and it isn't true. Don't get me wrong, I love Raimi's work outside the Spider-man franchise, and I thought 'Spider-Man 2' was quite good, but I don't think he got Spider-man right, and neither did Tobey Maguire.

IMO, the characters aren't as well portrayed and casted as they should be, the movies are way too campy, and superhero films in 2008 like 'The Dark Knight', 'The Incredible Hulk' and 'Iron Man' have done way better adapting the comics to film, making me realize that the Spidey movie franchise, as a whole seems half-baked.

I also think there was way too much CGI.  The movies are more like cartoons, actually.  I know it's a challenge to do FX for Spidey, but a blend of CGI and hard FX, like Iron Man and Hellboy,  then you're doing things right.  I don't  think they'd do a re-boot, (it'd be nice) but if some changes were made, i.e., director and cast, with exception to Simmons and the actor who portrayed Doc Connors, then I will be excited.  Otherwise, *meh*.  I want to agree with Red L.A.M.P. but  I am not that jaded----yet.

Spider-Man 4 will be good. They should make a Venom Movie and his orgin should be in a flash back like in The Incredible Hulk Movie, because they messed him up in Spider-Man 3. Noone mess up my favorite
comic book characters and get away with it. I mean Venom should be like
"We are one and now you are going to pay Spider-man!", "You turn us into a monster you are going to pay!"
or"We are posion to you Spider-Man we call ourselves Venom!" and he needs to be scary, bigger, needs to
stick his turn out such like in the comics and in the cartoons, and shouldn't be beaten by Spider-Man soo easy, because Venom looks almost like a weird spider version of The Abomination from The Incredible Hulk
so he needs to be bigger, strongerand scaryer. Spider-Man looks more weider than Venom in the movies. He should be more funnyer than being serious. These people act like they never read a
     Spider-Man comic book before.

Simmons is possibly the best cast character in any of the marvel films. The third film was shit but i'm still hoping the fouth will be better. btw how strong is spiderman?? Can he lift 10 tons, 1 ton or does he have the proportional strength of a spider?

My favorite scene Simmons had was in 3, during the final battle he needed a camera so he bought one of a girl for 100, then finds it empty and she's all "Film's extra" a lot of people were laughing even after that scene.

I thought the movies were good but they could improve it. I didn't quite agree with Topher Grace as Venom. Eddie Brock was pretty tough before he merged with the symbiote. Most the other actors I agreed with. But Spiderman could of been less serious. Maybe they'll get it right since they have plenty of time to think it through before it comes out in theaters.
