Let's cut to the chase. There are a few great reasons to check out this title. Set in the Star Wars future, 138 years after A New Hope, we get that sense that anything goes. The writers are not tied down to any specific continuity and we have no idea what to expect. Another reason is the creative team. If you've read the PLANET OF THE APES comics by Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, you've probably already decided to pick this up. With Hardman doing the art, it gets even better. A third reason to check this out is we get to see a future descendant of Han and Leia Solo. Who doesn't want to see what the future generation Solo is like. The final reason to check this out is that Solo is a female.
Ania Solo definitely has inherited some of her ancestor's qualities. She is still young and is perfectly capable of making big mistakes. She's tough and isn't afraid to stand up to others. Unfortunately this is likely to get her into some major trouble.
In a time where this appears to be some stability with the government, there are still pockets where everything isn't as peaceful as they would like. There are still huge elements of deceit and treachery and let's not forget about the Sith. There's nothing good about the Sith.
Hardman's art is great to see and Rachelle Rosenberg's colors add a great feel to it. Normally I'm ultra picky about the color and art in Star Wars and sci-fi comics but the vibe presented here really grabs you and pulls you in.
I really like the idea of the LEGACY timeline. Unfortunately for some reason I never got around to reading all of the first LEGACY volume. As a first issue, there may be some confusion as to what exactly is going on in time period and who some of the characters are. We start off with a character getting into a major fight but without fully knowing who he is, it's a little difficult to be invested in whether or not he survives.
It looks like Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman have introduced me to a new favorite Star Wars character. Set over one hundred years in the regular Star Wars timeline, the sky's the limit with what can happen. With new characters, you don't have the feeling that you know which characters are guaranteed to be safe. The introduction of Ania Solo makes you definitely want to come back to see more. There is a benefit of having read the first volume of STAR WARS: LEGACY but since it is a Star Wars comic, you can pick up on what you might have missed.
