Characters you'd like to see return

I know beforehand that most people don't like cheap resurrections, but isn't it equally annoying when a good character is killed off before reaching their full potential? A case in point is Jean Paul Valley, who could have disappeared and reemerged as the main protagonist of the new Azrael series.  Do we actually need Michael Washington Lane? Does the introduction of successors actually serve to make a character's backstory overly convoluted? Another example is Grant Wilson, the first ravager.  Don't get me wrong, i like Rose Wilson as the Ravager, but wouldn't it be interesting to see Grant return from the grave and confront daddy Deathstroke over his (and his mother's death).  So far, love him or hate him, it seems that Judd Winnick is the only writer to have the balls to bring back a dead character and make something out of them (i.e. Jason Todd).  If anyone has any responses or thoughts, please comment.

I was actually pumped up during Azrael DDK that perhaps it was JPV making his grand return but alas that wasnt meant to be. While I haven't read the new Azrael series, I really can't comment on just how different the backstory is from the actual Azrael. Nevertheless, its quite annoying to expect such a change without a proper send-off or "Whatever happened to...". I would personally have loved it if JPV was given more page-time in the Blackest Night, perhaps even being in the "Blackest Night Batman" mini-series. It would have been a major story and one I thought should have happened. Regardless of which, if comic editors are going to do returns, then at least give returns their due. It did feel cheap that a guy like JPV that had so much exposure in the 90s and his own series would just get just about a page on Blackest Night, and not even be that meaningful.

Eradicator is another return that hasn't been done well. He was last seen prior to Infinite Crisis, and returned post-New Krypton/War of the Supermen arc. Wouldn't he have been a major character during the actual NK story arc? Or for that matter, are his appearances in the Outsiders noteworthy enough? I would personally have loved to see Eradicator with the remaining survivors or New Krypton or something, but that doesnt seem likely after what happened in Action Comics 901

I'd like to see Toxin to return from comic Limbo. It makes no sense to create interesting character - police officer + non-evil symbiote, and then to forget about him.

@Kairan1979: Yeah, would have been interesting to see him as a recruit for the Initiative during the whole Civil War

@GTG12: Yeah, quite a pointless move considering that the Chaos War brought back most Olympians.  It was sad to see his son Alexander get killed by the Gorgon so soon after his father's death.......but i guess that's the Hickman syndrome lol

Did it bring back Ares?

And the thing about his son makes me mad too.

@GTG12: I think so.  Zeus and Hercules got brought back by events and (I think) Ares too, though you would probably be best off cecking Vine or Marvel.com.  However, i don't know about Phobos......which peeves me as Kairan1979 quite rightly points out that he was one of the best characters in the series.  Sadly he might end up as one of those characters who serves a plot purpose but fades into obscurity, a bit like Marnot from Dan Jurgen's Thor (who was killed)

I don't mind bringing back characters that have died.  Most definitely I WANT all the dead Guardians back protecting our Galaxy.  It is a shame Marvel wiped them all out and ended the series.  Marvel you suck!

I'd also like to see Knockout in this next Secret Six book come back.  I don't think it is going to happen though, I think it is too obvious for Scandal to save her, and if Simone is anything it is NOT obvious.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about it too much... No interesting character or group stays dead forever in the Marvel Universe... I believe Mar'vell stayed dead the longest, but I also believe he was the first Marvel super hero to die, so he died at a time that death actually MEANT dead....  I'm actually thinking of starting a thread that asks the question, "Which marvel super hero has died and STAYED dead?"

Yeah, you're right eventually they will bring back most of my Guardians.  Hopefully sooner than later.  Yeah, there aren't a lot of heroes who stay dead.  Funny, how that works.

Sentry! I know most hate him but I really like the character. I don't think he was done well. They went to far with the mental issues. He really could have been a great hero for Marvel. Second only to Thor.

I don't have a problems with some of my favorite characters coming back, screw everyone else =P. But seriously I think certain deaths that meant something should not be changed just because I want to see the character parading around again. Sure I'd love to see a dream sequence, a flash back or just some other way to remember the character but don't bring them back to life. Characters in limbo however need to be brought back. Right stat now!

Some guys I'd like to see make a come back:
Exiles (They got me back into Marvel. Make it happen Quesada!)
JPV (Sorry Mike.)

Prowler (Get him out of limbo every once in a while.)
Cardiac (Where was this guy in Civil War? When Osborn was in control? It was a perfect time for reintroduction. I felt he was a good character that never got the recognition he deserved. Besides we need a non token patrolling the streets.)
Black Panther (This is a low point in his history and he needs to return to his former glory.)
Inhumans (Deserve more panel time then those awful Generation Hope jag offs.)
Original X Factor (I miss them....)
Morlocks (Just don't kill them off....again)
Prodigy (w/powers. He's neutered without 'em.)
Weapon X Team (You know John Wraith, Cyber, Sabretooth, Maverick and the gang)
Windshear (I like having some diversity in Canada, sue me. Rework the character a bit and we have a new addition to Alpha Flight.)
Graviton (Where is he? Dude turned into a black hole and no one bothers to look him up when they're planning on committing a crime?)
Emplate (He was a good character who was lost in limbo. Bring him back for more then a few issues next time.)
Nova Corps (Okay this isn't really a come back but more of a blowing up. Look what DC has done with the Lanterns. Need I say more?)
That one dude from that joint Hulk 2099/Spiderman 2099/Space Cowboy comic I got way back when (He was pretty cool. Too bad I don't know his name.)
Nextwave (Stupid fleshies cancelled it.)
Synch (C'mon Calvin shouldn't be the only mimic around here.)
Skin (Can't just picture him lazying around the X-mansion.)
Destroyer Duck (He was cooler than Howard.)
Darkwing Duck (Suck it Daffy.)
Ben Reily (One of the few clones that were awesome.)
Cable or Stryfe (Give me just one pwease.)
Psionex (Revamp, revamp, REVAMP.)
X-Men Forever (Yes, I'm giving Claremount ONE more time.)

I'll hold off on saying Moon Knight until his series gets cancelled again. Ohhh, and Alpha Flight I'm looking at you. Don't disappoint.

@Wise Son: Yes to Prowler! But you may be disappointed with Windsheer; i think he lost his powers in House of M.  I agree with you that Well done deaths shouldn't be revised, but it sucks when a writer wastes a character's potential.  Take for example Baron Strucker; he was executed by Gorgon in Wolverine enemy of the state, then Fabian Nicieza undid his death with the old 'clone' trick.

@TheShame: Glad to see someone shares my views. That sucks, it would have been nice to revisit him. They could get someone Department H to engineer a suit to simulate his mutant powers. Like how High Evolutionary did Magneto in Uncanny X-Men #500. He'd be a nice improvement to the roster. The clone trick only works with Ben Reily and Stryfe. No other will do.

@Wise Son: Yeah, I remember G-Man talking about the clone-trick with Reilly and how the writer screwed up his death by having his body disintegrate lol But yeah, a lot of mutants could be given back their powers.......i.e. Maverick for e.g.  The only writer who even had the balls to do so was Kevin Grevioux during his New Warriors run, and he didn't have to make Jubilee a Vampire (DAMN VICTOR GISCHLER!)

@Iron_Lad: Really? I'll have to get my hands on some of the issues sooner or later, though i hope it isn't just Marvel propaganda
