Great redemption arcs

List items

  • Read Hellions by Zeb Wells. Just do yourself that favor.

  • In Power Man and Iron Fist Vol 3. It's understated and a relatively small subplot, but I think it's quite nice. If someone wanted to build off of that development in a new Thunderbolts or Luke Cage book I'd be delighted.

  • Abe's development in Thunderbolts Vol 1-26 is one of the best-written character arcs in comics history. It encapsulates what makes the first run on Thunderbolts great, and it's an incredible achievement to have such a radical character shift stick in comic books, especially for a character who's been a villain since the 60s.

  • It's one of the longest-running ongoing quests for redemption in comic books. It's had its ups and downs, sure, but Black Widow is great at capturing the feeling of desperately trying to reinvent yourself.

  • Eric's progression from Irredeemable Ant-Man to The Initiative to Thunderbolts and finally Secret Avengers is great. Part of what makes it compelling is that it never fully finishes. Eric never loses the things that make him a shit person. But his heroic death packs quite a punch if you follow his career and it makes his post-death cyborg hell-turn that much more tragic.
