powerwise not really, Synch would wipe the floor with the opposition its even more unfair if they have Gaia.

Gen X was consist with powerful mutants whose power had poorly developed.

I love the New Mutants, and I love the New X-Men. Overall, whilst Magma is a part of New Mutants, the newer generation under Kyle/Yost was simply superb. Gonna have to give it too them.

Art wise, New Mutants loose horribly
I read it since I love the characters but I hate most of the art
Other than that, though, it's a hard choice (ignoring that I have a major favroite character on each team)
Each have their strengths and weaknesses
If I had to go with one I'd say GenX with the New X-Men an infinitesimally close second

Both New Mutants and Gen X have some of my favorite characters (Dani and M). And Gen X is what introduced me to comics, and I love it for that. But I'll give it to New Mutants.

If it was a fight though i would disagree with GenX being called weak, they may not have known how to use their powers to the full potential but they were pretty strong,

Skin-as powerful as he could be 
Jubilee-okish 
Penny/Hollow-Who could stop her? 
Synch-the most powerful of them all 
and like mentioned before if it was during the time with Gaia as a member then they would beat anyone.

Gen X was around when I started collecting comics so I'm gonna go with them.

x-23 is melee range anyway, other teams have guys who would slaughter her before she got anywhere close.

I'm going to interpret Best as which would win in an all-out brawl. I'm including some part timers too to even out the playing field (10 each, pretending all are still powered).

My vote goes to Gen X because they seem more adaptable.

Ive read all the Original New Mutants run, most of Generation X and all of the New Xmen.  Honestly, I would have to say I enjoyed the New Xmen stories the best.  They were grittier, and you didnt know what was going to happen next.  I would say the New Xmen had the best storylines, while Gen X was just too emplate heavy and boring.  New Mutants had its moments, but also was mediocre.  Although I gotta say, Illayana was a hardcore player in the first New Mutants series.
 
As far as teams, I think its only fair to compare the noob New Mutants to New Xmen and Gen X and have this be fair.  I would give the fight to New Xmen (Dust, Hellion and X-23 are a great powerhouse), but if we were talking with experience, I would say the Current New Mutants overall.
  
But as far as my favorite, I would say the late New Mutants who turned into the original Xforce was my favorite team/book.

How in the world do the new X-men win a fight, Dust, X-23 and Hellion would be wrecked by Synch or Gaia or Magma or Warlock who are all really strong.

I'd go with Gen X. Skin is the only "weak" out of the team, but they have a lot of powerful members.

generation x because they  a little  more a product of their time (the extreme and gritty but cool 90s !) one of my favorite x-teams next to x-men and x-factor .
to the they were not the most perfect team but they had gotten the job done when in combat , but if it was a fight between the new mutants and generation x my money would be on generation x just for their heart in battle despite how powerful they are power wise !

do u know anything about Gaia? Synch control is fine like i said only had problems twice, he can just copy jubes and subatomic detonate the other teams.

Its was during Phalanx Covenant so before the GenX book, I believe. anyway Gaia has tk, tp, and reality warping limited only by willpower that puts her above everyone else here.

So, the first comic books I read were the New Mutants, fell in love with them, became a Magik fan to the max :) 
second I read New X-Men, fell in love with them.... big time Surge fan here don't hate on her or I'll start a war :P 
 I actually never picked up an issue of Generation X... and well this thread got me interested in reading it, so I got the Generation X Classic, which consisted of some Uncanny X-Men issues, dealing with the creating of GenX and then 4 issues of the new series GenX, and I'm really liking it so far, I really love the character Husk, and I'm liking the team dynamic!  
 
It's really hard to compare the teams if you really think of it, because the New Mutants were the oldest team, and they were like old school with their story line which I really liked, but it's hard to compare them with the New X-Men comic books, because the New X-Men (especially Childhood's End) was really intense and so much loss, and evil which I really enjoyed. And well GenX, from what I've been reading so far is really good and I'm liking the characters personalities better! 
 
So anyway, now I'm done with my rant, it's hard to choose which one I like better now, since I'm more in depth with the other teams other than just the New Mutants!

GENERATION X (my personal fav) or the original NEW MUTANTS would win. 
I dont feel the newer team had the team dynamic that the other two had and would suffer because of that.

New X-Men are my favorite. Too bad Hellion wasn't a leader.

Sorry but it had to be Acadmey X, BOTH run's were great.
