Can these hunters hold up to their predecessors??
"Who are you?" "I'm alive....I'm the one you don't f*ck with." Royce, Noland
Time to jump into a big puddle of mud and roll around boys and girls. Thats right the galaxy's greatest hunter returns with a deadlier mindset than ever before.
The Good
First off Adrien Brody brings something new to table with this momentous performance. In my opinion he is one man that no one would have ever expected to become the main protagonist in a predator movie back in Arnie's day. One thing that makes this a good movie is that each character has a different background to them. I mean in the original Predator everyone had a military background but in this one we get a mercenaries, a Yakuza member, a Mexican drug cartel guy, along with a few others. There's two more people that did excellent jobs with their roles. First off I'll talk about Larry Fishburne. The man was a genius as far as adding personality to a character. Though he had a very short amount of time to do so, he created an amazing impact (though he didn't really make or break the story). Next is Topher Grace. Throughout the entire story I found myself wondering, "Why the hell is this guy here, all the others are bad-asses and hard hitters, but Topher's character is a little punk." But as time went on (I won't spoil it) you see there's more there than meets the eye.
The Bad
As much good as there going for this movie there can be almost as much bad depending on how picky you want to be. First off a big disappointment for me was the lack of time before alot of the kills. I mean don't get me wrong the kills were brutally awesome but it seemed like they go so engrossed in their main characters that they forgot to kill off the extra characters that were there to beef up the story and then all of a sudden towards the end they suddenly tried to kill them all off. Another thing I didn't like being a big predator fan was the lack thereof of the classic predator.
The Verdict
This film has alot to offer and does an excellent job of bringing back some of the core elements of a good Predator film. I think everyone ranging from hardcore fans to someone who just wants to see a good R rated film. I'm really excited for (though its a long way off) the DVD to come out and to get to see the "Uncut, Directors Cut" or whatever the h3ll else they decide to call it comes out and we can see the film as it was originally intended to be seen. Over all I'm gonna give the movie B- with a 2.7 out of 4. Like I said its worth seeing and will almost assuredly be worth getting the DVD (which I will review).
