typingkira's Namor: The First Mutant #5 - Faces review

    Sometimes, hearts break you.

I love Namor, and though I haven't read very many actual comics with him from start to finish, I have to say, I was so excited to get my hands on this book!

    The Good
The writing was great. Not brilliant, not spectacular, but great. It set the mood and fit the art, which I'll get to complaining about later. Every character maintained their own voice, and from the little bit of Moore's work that I've read, I believe is this writer's strong point. Very subtle nuances in Betty Dean and Alice Ryan's tone and words separate the characters well. Namor's voice was well-done, not too over-the-top with the Shakespearian dialogue and perfectly arrogant in execution.

Not just that, but the interaction between characters was enjoyable and felt very real, as far as fictional characters interacting goes. Namor's relatively short exchanges with Alani (Loa) really established a relationship between the two in the beginning, which I hope continues in the other books in this series.

    The Bad
The first half of the issue was really the only thing that bothered me. There were THREE INKERS. Personally, I kind of hated the art in the first half and would have preferred ONE inker with a cleaner style. I understand the reasoning behind the decision, having a different inker for the different faces of Namor, but honestly? One good artist would have been enough in my opinion.

Congratulations Kira! Great review! Very fair too, lol the art...

I am glad Loa is being used, not hundred percent about how she is written (I prefer her patterns being inherent) but still, plus its Namor, its great having a Namor book! Stuart Moore is great!

@TypingKira:  I think you would like Loa, when/if you read more of her, in a way she is almost like the Anthy to Thor is Loa to Namor lol

Good review. I like to check out this series. I might put Namor into my fan-fiction series, Freaks.

Nice review!  And one of my favorite issues of Namor's new series.  I totally agree on the multitude of inkers.  I just don't get that at all.

The Mentality of a King 0

One of the biggest problems in the depiction of any superhero in comicdom is the reconciliation of the various changes and interpretations that occur during a character's history. While, Namor the Sub-Mariner has perhaps not experienced such a drastic evolution as someone as popular as Batman, he too has been subject to numerous interpretations. In the 30's and 40's, he was interchangeably a menace to the surface world and a scourge against the Axis Powers.   Part Atlantean, Part Mutant, All Lov...
