I woke up at 4am today, last night I slept from 7am-13pm. Preaching to the choir, haha.

New 52: Flops, Drops, cops and Hops

After being inspired by the Thread that Aztek made, I decided to make a similar thread. Not to make any competition, but purely for the fact that I want to share some opinions as this goes on. I will be editing this as time goes on, to explain my decisions and .

What the thread is about: Each week for the first month of DCnU comics, I will be adding comic books under the titles of Flops, Drops and Hops.

  • Flopped comic books are comic books that have not reached my expectations
  • Dropped comic books are - well, dropped.
  • Copped comic books that I liked, but weren't amazing, or were the bare minimum.
  • Hopped comic book are books which normally I wouldn't be interested in, but for some reason the have me hooked and thus, I hopped on "ride".

Flopped:

  • Green Arrow: I gave JT Krul a chance in the previous series and I hated it. I gave him a chance now and I must say... it Flopped.
Explantion: I had great expectation for this series because Green Arrow is one of my favourite characters of all time and I thought that this would be a great way to see him in some totally rad outfit, doing totally rad things. More technology, somthing with Shock Value, something interesting. Unfortunately, I don't think that neither of these things happened, which sucks. I can now proclaim that JT Krul is the first writer that I do not like and that I will go out of my way to know when it is him writing the books I will be picking up.
The whole series was just lack luster, Green Arrow beat up some random super-powered thugs, but he didn't do much more than that. I was hoping that the team that he put together would lead to some sort of Bond-esque gig, but that wasn't the case either. All in all, it is an idea with potential, but ultimately just falls flat.
  • Static Shock: Series wasn't anything special.
  • Justice League International: First issue flopped like Blob taking a dip in the pool. OK, that was a bad joke, didn't even make sense. You get the idea.
Explanation: The series first of all didn't have me interested. However, after watching the preview it kind of sparked my interest but I think that ultimately it didn't manage to do what I wished. First of all, Booster here is written in a way that I like. Tora, Godiva, Fire however, haven't been defined in the book, which is something fatal for a team book. You need more than just a small cast of defined characters and some extra adds. I think that General August is being written well and Rocket Red is also being defined, Batman isn't being written in any great way, but good enough. Guy Gardener is being written well and it shows, though the exclusion of him for the greater part of the first issue means that there are even less characters for us to enjoy. The enemies aren't even worth mentioning otherwise I'd just be bashing the comic.

Dropped:

  • OMAC: *Haven't read it, but its going to be here, trust me*
  • Hawk and Dove: Still to read, but I think its going to be here too.

Copped:

  • Batgirl: It was satisfying, but it was a bit too smiley and whatnot.
  • Swamp Thing: It was an interesting read, but I think it was more set up than anything.
  • Detective Comics: Nothing special, but it was solid. I don't know if I'm going to be reading it anymore though.

Hopped:

  • Men of War: Spectacular.
  • Batwing: My Expectation were low, specially after the Judd Winick interview. But the book proved interesting.
Explanation: Nice art and interesting story, executed well.
  • Animal Man: Aztek recommended it, I picked it up and it was kind of a WTF ride that had a nice taste towards the end.
