What can I say new about Kyle Baker?  No much really, those who follow his work can agree he is mad Talented.  The man can illustrate in so many styles its hard to believe he is the same guy each time.  There is something for everyone when looking at Kyle Baker's career, he has drawn noir tales from when DC had The Shadow, he as written and drawn the uber funny award-winning Plastic Man and he is now a historian with Nat Turner. Kyle Baker is a comic book beast, if you don't know him you are really doing yourself an injustice.

The Cartoonist books mark his independence from the Big-Two comic companies, like Eddie Campbell and David Lapham before him.   He has worked for the big-two here and there since starting his own Kyle Baker Publishing, but now he has freedom to do things his way. Book One of Kyle Baker Cartoonist is just that, he is doing things his way.  As for a book there is really two parts: (1) The Bakers and (2) everything else.  Ultimately, its The Bakers stuff that I keep this book for, there are some great stories he tells with cartoon versions of his family.  From changing Jackie to his son Issac's own effective Martial Artist, Kyle takes mundane family life and really makes it entertaining.

The other half of the book is full of great joke comics, some available on his site to view for free and in color.  Color something missing from the original independent release.  I would recommend this whole book to anyone if it was one for one comic, this comic deals with the internet adds to sell us products to enlarge certain body parts.  Do not get me wrong the comic is hella funny, but a kid does not need to see a huge penis or huge bare breasts.  The old man looked like a Mermaid the penis was so big.  I would not want to be a parent to explain that to a kid.  That one poorly placed comic prevented a perfect score from me, sorry if you read this Kyle, your a Dad, what were you thinking?  That comic in the same pages with The Bakers?  Poorly placed.

I will now leave you with a few of the comics I enjoyed from this book I found from Kyle's Blog.

     Cheers
