ironherc's Justice League #13 - The Secret of the Cheetah, Part One; On the Outs review

The cover exaggerates but it's true

Justice League is picking up properly now as the team goes to help wonder woman in learning the origins of one of her oldest adversaries. Revealing how much of a threat boost she has received now a days (probably the whole flashpoint thing was responsible).

The issue starts with the makeout session that removed booster gold from existence (yes I still find it hilarious how can a kiss get eliminate someone from time even if they aren’t even related). Both part ways as 5 days later there is a fight between cheetah and wonder woman as she is easily defeated because of holding back. Later, batman and aquaman are with Trevor who is still recovering as they ask him about cheetah’s relationship with wonder woman who explains it as well to the rest of her teammates. Cheetah was originally diana’s first friend who worked on the Smithsonian museum as they helped each other dealing with dangerous mythical artifacts which one of them was a dagger from the amazon’s that turned her in what she is today. Flash and the others offer help but she neglects them as Superman decides to talk to her in private. After talking about the whole kissy thingy. Meanwhile flash and cyborg discuss what could happen to the team as cyborg really doesn't know what to do if they were ever to disband since he doesn't feel human at all. Flash been the good guy that he is convinces him that he is obviously human or else he wouldn't care about all that or would fantasize about making out with a toaster. Diana finally accepting help, the team assembles and teleport to the amazon. The issue ends when they are met by cheetah who speedblitz both batman, flash and bits superman who becomes a super cheetah man! The backup hints new things to come out in the upcoming JLA which is nice but the cool thing is that we are introduced to the new mutiplex who looks pretty neat.

    The Good:

Cheetah, a wonder woman villain who I knew of it’s existence long ago has probably become a big threat now thanks to the relaunch I would usually say what's up with that since she's never had feats that would easily hit someone like the flash or superman. But it's a changed universe now so it's fine with me. A famous WW villain needs to be as threat or else there is no point. Also liked how the big 6 are quickly getting more friendly with each other (except aquaman and batman)

    The Bad:

I really can’t find anything but the idea that nobody trusted each other enough in the team before this still bothers me a little. The league could had easily helped WW on the cheetah thing long before. but I guess it’s fine since it's all for the sake of character development and is true that if that were to happen, the league would be dealing with everyone's problems in their solo books

    Overall: 4.5/5

A solid issue with that feels like a simple JL adventure that is actually interesting. Who are this cheetah worshiping dudes? How will the JL do against a wild cheetah superman? Just gotta read next issue before things really get big with the whole throne of atlantis

I have been enjoying the Justice League series, especially over the last few issues and like what Johns is doing with the series. I was also very happy when I noticed Tony Daniel was doing art on this issue as I've been a fan of his for the last couple of years and have been missing seeing his artwork (as he's been more focused on writing as of late). It was however a shame to see that Jim Lee was leaving the series but with Daniels doing this issue and the next, and Ivan Reis jumping on as of i...

THE GOOD: Tony Daniel really knocked this issue out of the park. The amount of details that he adds to the panels were amazing. His style also looked very clean and perfect. His facial expressions are also very strong and help convey the emotions that these character are feeling. The story is much better then what we have been getting for a while. We get to see Superman and Wonder Woman finish up their kiss and then we jump into Wonder Woman vs. Cheetah! It's very cool to see the Cheetah. There ...
