Hawkeye & Mockingbird Issue 6 Review
OH NOOOOO! NOT THIS! TELL ME THIS ISN'T.... THE END?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Unfortunately though, it is true. My favorite comic, my absolute must have... has been canceled. Low sales have put this title to rest, but luckily with Widowmaker coming up followed by a Hawkeye mini-series, the adventures of our heroes will continue! Lucky for us, the magnificent team of Jim McCann and David Lopez are here to give us a fantastic send off to what has been a world-class series!
Our issue opens with Hawkeye having a nightmare, the images suggesting that he has a killer instinct within him. As he wakes up, Clint is confronted by Spider-Woman, who asks where Bobbi is. Flashing to Bobbi, we see her with Dominic Fortune fighting remnants of the Skrull armada. Later, on the Raft, Hawkeye confronts Crossfire who talks to Clint about his killer instinct and that its only a matter of time until he crosses the line. Back to Fortune and Mockingbird, we learn the full disclosure of Fortune's past. On the Raft, Clint and Steve Rogers have a talk, as Rogers takes it upon himself to inspire one of those he considers closest. After their talk, Hawkeye confronts Mockingbird with some shocking information that could mean her life!
I've been singing the praises of Jim McCann for quite some time now. Every issue has been near perfection. This issue is actually probably the best thus far, which is saying a lot. While some of Dominic's fortune is cliche, it works in the world that has been crafted with this series and it serves to really tie him in with Hawkeye and Mockingbird more. The scene with Crossfire is top of the line and the nightmare scene here is probably the best I've ever encountered. Above all though, the icing on the cake, the talk that Rogers and Hawkeye have. It's incredibly powerful and serves as a perfect way of summing up the character of Hawkeye.
Overall, Hawkeye & Mockingbird has worked its way all the way up to my favorite title just in time for it to be cancelled. But that doesn't mean it's too late! Buy this issue! Buy Widowmaker! Show your support and bring this title back in some way, shape, or form! 4.5 out of 5, 5 for the series overall. It's presence will be sorely missed.
