Still a bit shallow
One thing readers need to accept about the Ghost Whisperer comic is that the creators are trying to get one story told in each short issue. That doesn't leave much time for depth in the story or in the character development. There is still the grander story arc of the spirit calling herself Osiris. In this issue, by the end Melinda realizes that the Mummy spirit is a female which kind of rules out that Osiris is the persona they should be calling it. And for some reason this Mummy spirit is connected to Professor Payne.
SPOILER
Jay Mohr, the actor currently portraying Payne in the tv series, has signed been announced as a lead actor in a new tv show. At the season finale of GW shown on May 16, 2008, Melinda and all her friends are lined up on a sunny street and Professor Payne says, "If there are six of us why are there only five shadows?" which leaves speculations that something has happened to the Prof. Payne character on the show.
The tv creators certainly are not above removing a popular character such as they did with Andrea in Season 1. She had to be replaced with another best friend figure in Delia. If Professor Payne is removed from the cast, Melinda will need another paranormal/occult expert to go to.
Now if this is the case, will the comic book series be in the same continuity? The Mummy spirit is connected to Payne and he's still appearing as a live person (or so it seems) in the comics.
The issue's small contained story about the prom queen is trite but entertaining for what it is. Popular girl expects to be prom queen. She dies and the girl that wins the crown gives a touching speech. No tears to be shed over this one unlike some of the real heart-wrenching stories told in the show.
