Joker. Bane was good, but he doesn't come close to Ledger's Joker.

I liked them both for very different reasons, Joker for the amazing acting and Bane just for the amazing character/personality. So i like both of them best in different categories ;)

Ledger's Joker wins.

Hardy gets tons of points though because of how most of his performance was facial expression and he nailed it.

Not a fair question as Joker as a character is much more raw material to work with, obviously his is more interesting and arguably required more acting talent but that doesn't mean Tom Hardy couldn't have done a better Joker or that Heath could have done a better Bane. You'd have to compare actors who portrayed the same character.

Joker.

Hardy was excellent in every fashion, but it was Tom Hardy acting. Even with the mask, you knew that.

Ledger's Joker? If the credits hadn't told you, you never would have known who the Joker was. He BECAME the character, and that's the highest praise I know of that can be given to the actor.

I also have to agree with this, I don't know enough Tom Hardy movies to speak of him but I always loved Heath Ledger long before The Dark Knight and like most actors he had some common character traits but you got none of that in The Dark Knight and I never would have known it was Heath Ledger and whereas I love him in a lot of other movies for the same reasons, as Joker it was a unique performance that was just great on its own.

Heath Ledger as the Joker was simply astounding. He pulled off what I would have thought was impossible. He made the Joker funny AND scary. Sorry, Tom Hardy did a very good job, but Heath Ledger's Joker was the kind of acting all actors should aspire to. In my opinion anyway.

Joker. Heath was the Joker.

Heath had the best material to work with and did a stellar job, Tom did the best with what he was given and gave a great performance, but it fell short in comparison.

Not that I didn't like their take on Bane, but Ledger's Joker was incredible. The best part of the Nolan Batman films are the villains though.

Grew up with Hamill's interpretation of The Joker, and that's the DEFINITIVE version of the character in my estimation. Liked Ledger's interpretation well enough, but wasn't exactly awed by it. Hardy's Bane, however, is by far my favorite interpretation of the character outside of the comics. I'm very thankful he was chosen for the role.

Bane

" Oh, you. You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible, aren't you? You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever." - Joker in TDK

"mfpphhh mmmpff fpphhh batman!" - Bane in TDKR

Bane, easily. Heath's Joker had the advantage of just being able to be crazy but Hardy had Bane sorta held back the entire time, almost as if he was about to explode but didn't. You could see it in his eyes, the intensity and rage contained in him. Plus all of Heath's little tics were annoying.
